आज उस लेखक जन्मदिन है जिसने वहशत के अंधेरों में इंसानियत की शमा जलाई, जिसका लेखन हमारे इतिहास के सबसे भयानक दौर की याद दिलाता है, उस दौर की जब इंसान के अन्दर का शैतान जाग उठा था. उसी सआदत हसन मंटो को याद कर रही हैं संवेदनशील कवयित्री बाबुषा कुछ अलग अंदाज में- जानकी पुल.

मैं उसे लगातार नहीं पढ़ सकती। वो मुझे सन्न छोड़ जाता है।
मुझ जैसों को ज़िंदा रहना हो तो उस जैसे से छः -आठ महीने में एक बार मिलना ठीक रहता है। इससे ज्यादा मुलाकातें सेहत के लिए ख़तरा हैं।

कभी कभी जी करता है कि क़ाश मैं उसकी ‘जनरेशन‘ में पैदा हुयी होती तो उसके घर के सामने सड़क पर खड़े होकर उसे गालियाँ बकती और उसकी खिड़की पर पत्थर फेंकती।
एक रोज़ नींद में मैंने उसे खूब आड़े हाथों लिया – ” सुनो ! मुझे चिढ़ है तुमसे। तुम अपने इन बड़े बड़े पैने नाखूनों को कुतर डालो जिनसे तुम इस सोसायटी के चेहरे पर पड़ा नक़ाब नोचते हो। इतना सच कहना ज़रूरी है क्या ? जिंदगी पर कुछ तो यक़ीन बाक़ी रहने दो।
एक ‘रोमांस‘ नाम का ‘एलीमेंट‘ भी होता है, मिस्टर ! ज़िंदगी से थोडा रोमांस नहीं कर सकते ? बोलो ? अरे थोड़ा बाग़, गुलाब, आफ़ताब, माहताब, जुस्तजू, ख़ुशबू पर भी लिखो कि बस ‘बू‘ ही लिखना है ! थोडा बरगलाओ लोगों को भई ! ये झूठ बड़े हसीन होते हैं। ज़िन्दगी जीने का हौसला देते हैं। पर नहीं जनाब, जो तुमने अपना तरीका बदला तो आईने वालों की दुकान न बंद हो जाएगी? तो घूमो गली गली आईना ले कर और निपटते रहो अदालती मुकदमों से। स्याही है कि कमबख्त ज़हर भर रखा है कलम में। जिस पन्ने पर फैले वही सूख जाए ! “

मेरे इस – चीखने चिल्लाने का उस पर कोई असर न हुआ और वो चददर ताने सोता रहा !
ऐसी ही किसी मुलाक़ात में मैंने उससे कहा कि ये खुदाबख्श किस किसिम का मर्द था। सुल्ताना से मुहब्बत का दम भी भरता था और उससे धंधा भी करवाता था। मैंने उसे मशवरा दिया कि उसकी कहानी का ‘एंड‘ कुछ यूँ होना था कि सुलताना और शंकर की ‘सेटिंग‘ जम जाती। सुलताना को सच्चा प्यार हासिल होता और शंकर सुलताना की ज़िन्दगी संवर जाती। खुदाबख्श मरता …. जो करना है करता।
मेरी बात पर वो मुस्कुरा कर रह गया।
मैं कब रुकने वाली थी मैंने आगे सकीना के बाबत बात की – ” तुम से तो बात ही करना बेकार है ! ये सकीना का इज़ारबंद खुलवाना ज़रूरी था क्या ? दुपट्टा सरकाने से भी काम चल सकता था। सब तुम्हारे हाथ में था। तुम जैसा लिखते वो वैसा करती पर तुम्हारी कलम को तो दुनिया चकलाघर नज़र आती है और ज़िन्दगी महज़ खरीद-फ़रोख्त का सामान ! हुह ! “
मेरी इस बात पर वो हँस पड़ा और अपनी स्टडी की दराज से दो चॉकलेट्स निकाल कर मेरी हथेली पर रख दीं और मुझे चलता कर दिया।
एक दफ़े तो वो मुझे मेरा बाप बन कर मिला। मैं नन्ही सी थी। लोग अपने नन्हे -मुन्नों को पार्क में या अच्छी सड़कों पर चलना सिखाते थे। पर वो मुझे घुटनों तक कीचड़ में चलना सिखाता था। मेरी माँ उसकी इस हरक़त पर उसे कोसती पर वो एक कान से सुनता और दूसरे से बाहर कर देता।
इस तरह चार-पाँच मर्तबा मैं उससे नींद के शहर में मिल चुकी हूँ। वो बच्ची समझ कर चॉकलेट वॉकलेट खिला कर भगा देता है।
कल रात पारा सौ डिग्री पार कर गया। चुनाँचे मैंने आज काम से छुट्टी ले ली।
अभी सुबह से उसकी ‘शिक़ारी औरतें‘ पढ़ कर उठी हूँ। सोचती हूँ दिन भर वो साथ रहे तो बुखार क्या बुरा है ?

पर सुनिए हुज़ूर, वो कोई बुखार की दवा नहीं है। उलटे वो ख़ुद ही एक जानलेवा बुखार है। राहत हरगिज़ नहीं है वो। दिन भर उसके साथ रहने के बाद कोई किसी करम का बाकी नहीं बचता । पहाड़ों पर चढ़ते हुए ऑक्सीजन की कमी हो जाने से नाक-कान और सिर पर जो एक अजीब तरह का दबाव महसूस होता है ठीक वैसा ही लगता है जब उसके साथ पूरा दिन गुज़ार दो।
अभी मैंने एक क्रोसिन ली है। उसके बाद भी वो माथे पर 101 डिग्री के ताप पर सुलग रहा है। वो कनपटी में साँय- साँय कर रहा है।
….. और ऐसी हालत में बस एक ही इलाज नज़र आता है कि चौराहे पर खड़े हो कर ऐलान करूँ – सआदत हसन मंटो, बाबुषा कोहली की सलामी कुबूल करो।
एक 'रोमांस' नाम का 'एलीमेंट' भी होता है, मिस्टर ! ज़िंदगी से थोडा रोमांस नहीं कर सकते ? बोलो ?ग्रेट बाबुषा !!!!

तीन नाम लिखे हैं अभी मेरे कमरे की ह्वाईट बोर्ड पे – फणीनष्वर नाथ रेणु, यषपाल और मिलान कुंदेरा।
सुबह जब आंख खुली तो तारीख याद की – 11 मई। हम्म… कुछ है आज और झटके से ये दिन याद आया।
फिर जब कमरे की सफाई करने लगा तो सोचा इस पर आज सआदत हसन मंटो भी लिखूंगा। जब नहा रहा था तो बाथरूम की जाली साफ करते वक्त उसी का कथन कौंधा कि जब हम सुईट के लवेंडर, इत्र, खूषबू वगैरह की बात कर और लिख सकते हैं तो इन बदरोओं की क्यों नहीं जो हमारा मैल पीती हैं और हमें साफ रखती हैं। यह तो एक किस्म की चालाकी हुई।
आज जब बहुत सारे लेखकों को सिनेमा के कंटेंट से माल और अनुभूतियां निकाल कर अपनी बनावटी कहानी में ठूंसते देखता हूं तो हंसी आती है।
मैंने मंटो को पहली बार मोज़ेल के मार्फत जाना था और मोज़ेल मेरी हिरोइन हो गई। और हतक तो सौ बार से ऊपर पढ़ चुका हूं। उस पर चर्चा के क्रम में एक चालाकी और ठूंस दी जाती है वह अष्लील लिखता था, उस पर मुकदमा चला। यह बचने का रास्ता है।
कहीं एक जगह ठीक लिखा था कि उसका दुर्भाग्य था कि उसे जीते जी कोई अच्छा संपादक नहीं मिला। सो वो गलतफहमियों का षिकार होता रहा। प्रकाषकों ने भी मंटो की बदनाम कहानियां, अष्लील कहानियां, फलानां मुकदमा, चिलाना किस्से के उनवान से किताब छाप कर खूब माल छानी। इस्मत ने एक बार जब उससे इस बारे में कहा तो उसने कहा – उसकी रोज़ी रोटी चल रही है, चलने दो। काष वो आज के राइटरों की तरह चालू और घाघ होता।
बाद में इस कमी को बलराज मेनरा और शरद दत्त ने दस्तावेज़ के मार्फत से बखूबी पूरा किया।
मुझे उसके लिखे नाटक भी कमाल लगते हैं, खासकर आओ सीरीज़, जर्नलिस्ट तो बेहतरीन है। आओ रेडियो सुनें में भी एक पर्दाफाष है जिसे तब बीबीसी (बुखारी ब्रदर्स काॅपरेषन) कहा जाता था।
संयोग से कल मेरा दिल्ली विष्वविद्यालय जाना हुआ था। मेट्रो जैसे ही सिविल लाइंस के पास पहुंची मंटो याद आया। आज वहां का आॅल इंडिया रेडियो भवन जर्जर हालत में है जहां कभी अष्क, कृष्णचंदर और मंटो एक साथ थे। और वो मंटो के लेखन का गोल्डन एरा था।
आखिर क्या कारण है कि मंडी हाऊस के आसपास के थियेटरों में हर औसतन हर तीसरे चैथे दिन मंटो का कोई न कोई नाटक मंचित किया जाता है।
मैं ह्वाईट बोर्ड पर नाम लिखे बगैर दफ्तर चला आया। जिनका नाम लिखा था उससे हल्का था, जो नहीं लिख सका वो ज़हन में लगातार दस्तक दे रहा है।

वैसे आप ही के इस ब्लाॅग पर मुझे नीलाभ साहब का लिखा लेख सबसे बेहतरीन लगा है।
लिखने का यह अंदाज़ मन को छू गया – बधाई लेखिका लिखने के लिए – बधाई जानकीपुल – छापने के लिए !
इतना बढिया लिखने के लिए बाबुषा, तुम भी हमारा सलाम क़ुबूल करो.
बाबुषा कोहली हमारी सलामी मंज़ूर करे। मंटो जैसी खुरदरी शख्सियत और कलम के बारे में इस मासूमियत से लिखने के लिए। जिस लेखक से हमारी कई शिकायतें रहीं,उससे मोहब्बत होने लगी।

वाह बाबुषा. क्या मन से लिखा है अपने बिंदास अंदाज में. मंटो जैसा हिंदी का कोई लेखक नहीं. रोबेर्तो बोलान्यो से उनकी तुलना कुछ हद तक की जा सकती है. मंटो की रूह को शांति मिल गयी होगी या और बेचैन हो गया होगा कि जीतेजी इस सिरफिरी लड़की से तारीफ क्यों ना सुन पाया.मंटो के मुकदमों से जुडी एक किताब 'गुनहगार मंटो' पर मैंने साहित्य शिल्पी के लिए कुछ लिखा था.उनकी एक मजेदार किताब 'गंजे फ़रिश्ते' है जो नर्गिस और श्याम जैसे कलाकारों के साथ उसके घनिष्ठ संबंधों के बारे में है.इस लेख के लिए बहुत बहुत शुभकामनाएं.
