80 साल की उम्र में केदारनाथ सिंह का आठवाँ कविता संग्रह आया है- ‘सृष्टि पर पहरा’। अपनी जमीन पर इतनी दूर तक इतनी मजबूती के साथ खड़ा शायद ही कोई दूसरा कवि दिखाई देता हो। प्रियदर्शन ने इन कविताओं के बहाने केदार जी की कविताई-जमीन पर बढ़िया लिखा है, अपने लिखे से सहमत कर जाने वाला। आप भी देखिये- जानकी पुल।

केदारनाथ सिंह समकालीन हिंदी कविता के वरिष्ठतम कवियों में हैं। कुंवरनारायण को छोड़कर दूसरा नाम तत्काल याद नहीं आता जो इस वरिष्ठता और निरंतर सक्रियता में उनसे प्रतिस्पर्द्धा कर सके। उनका पहला कविता संग्रह ‘अभी बिल्कुल अभी’ आए आधी सदी से ज़्यादा समय हो गया। 60 साल पहले उन्होंने पाल एलुआर की कविता ‘लिबर्टी’ का अनुवाद किया था।
जो कवि कविता के साथ इतना लंबा समय गुज़ार दे और लगातार लिखता रहे, कविता उसके लिए विधा नहीं रह जाती, व्यक्तित्व बन जाती है, अभिव्यक्ति नहीं रह जाती, अस्तित्व की शर्त बन जाती है। वह आती-जाती सांस जैसी हो जाती है जिसकी बेआवाज़ लय हमेशा साथ बनी रहती है। अपने आठवें कविता संग्रह सृष्टि पर पहरा तक आते-आते केदारनाथ सिंह कविता नहीं, अपने को लिखने लग जाते हैं। लेकिन क्या अपने को लिख देने से कविता बन जाती है? लिखने से पहले ख़ुद को सिरजना पड़ता है। केदारनाथ सिंह की कविताओं को पढ़ते हुए यह बार-बार खयाल आता है कि खुद को सिरजने की यह प्रक्रिया उनके भीतर न जाने कब से चल रही है। इन कविताओं में पुरानी कविताओं की अनुगूंजें ख़ूब सुनाई पड़ती हैं, लेकिन किसी दुहराव की तरह नहीं, बल्कि उस निरंतरता की तरह जो केदारनाथ सिंह को लगातार बना रही है, बार-बार नए सिरे से रच रही है। 1980 में जो घास टूटे हुए ट्रक के पहिए बदलने को बेताब थी. अब ‘दुनिया के तमाम शहरों से / खदेड़ी हुई जिप्सी है वह/ तुम्हारे शहर की धूल में / अपना खोया हुआ नाम और पता खोजती हुई’तमाम दरवाज़े पीट रही है। अपने ख़ास अंदाज़ में केदारनाथ सिंह इस घास के लिए थोड़ी सी जगह मांगते हैं और कहते हैं, ‘….आदमी के जनतंत्र में / घास के सवाल पर / होनी चाहिए लंबी एक अखंड बहस / पर जब तक वह न हो / शुरुआत के तौर पर मैं घोषित करता हूं / कि अगले चुनाव में / मैं घास के पक्ष में / मतदान करूंगा / कोई चुने या न चुने / एक छोटी सी पत्ती का बैनर उठाए हुए/ वह तो हमेशा मैदान में है।‘
यह केदारनाथ सिंह की कविता का अपना जनतंत्र है, जिसमें उनके चुनाव की प्राथमिकतों को समझा जा सकता है। वह रौंदी जा रही घास की नागरिकता ही नहीं, उसका नेतृत्व भी स्वीकार करने को तैयार हैं। यह अनायास नहीं है कि यह किताब कवि ने समर्पित की है ‘अपने गांव के उन लोगों को, जिन तक यह किताब कभी नहीं पहुंचेगी’।
लेकिन केदारनाथ सिंह ने वह गांव इस किताब में बसा डाला है। 35 साल पहले लिखी गई कविता ‘मांझी का पुल’ में हल चलाते और खैनी की तलब के वक़्त रुक कर मांझी के पुल पर नज़र डालते लालमोहर की मृत्यु की ख़बर इस संग्रह में आती है। कभी सन 47 को याद करते हुए नूर मियां का जिक्र छेड़ने वाले केदारनाथ सिंह इस संग्रह में गफ़ूर मियां से मिलने और उनकी तस्वीर लेने की गुज़ारिश करते हैं जिनकी शतायु हो चुकी झुर्रियों में एक पूरी बस्ती बसती है। कवि का इसरार है, ‘अगर इस बस्ती से गुज़रो / तो जो बैठे हों चुप / उन्हें सुनने की कोशिश करना / उन्हें घटना याद है / पर वे बोलना भूल गए हैं।‘
कविता अचानक याद दिलाती है कि वे बस्तियां हैं मगर हम उन्हें देखना भूल गए हैं- पेड़ों में दबी कहानियां, पत्थरों में हड़प्पा के बसे होने की संभावना, एक दमदार आवाज वाली बुढ़िया का घर, जिसको लेकर कवि का प्रस्ताव है कि उसे राष्ट्रीय धरोहर घोषित कर दिया जाए।
नहीं, यह सिर्फ नॉस्टैल्जिया नहीं है, यह गांव छोड़कर शहर में बस गए कवि का दुख भरा विलास नहीं है, यह सभ्यता विमर्श है जो हमारे समय का कवि कर रहा है और कविता बन रही है। यह कवि शब्दों को उनके अर्थ लौटाता है, भाषा को उसकी कविता और जीवन को उसकी भाषा। भाषा भी एक घर है जहां कवि रहता है। भाषा को लेकर शायद हिंदी की कुछ बेहतरीन कविताएं केदारनाथ सिंह के पास हैं। ‘देवनागरी’ में वे सभ्यता की वर्णमाला रच देते हैं, मनुष्य की हंसी और उसके हाहाकार को एक साथ रखते हुए– ‘यह मेरे लोगों का उल्लास है / जो ढल गया है मात्राओं में, / अनुस्वार में उतर आया है कोई कंठावरोध।‘वे सारी दुनिया में बोली जा रही हिंदी का सपना देखते हैं और कहते हैं,‘बिना कहे भी जानती है मेरी जिह्वा / कि उसकी पीठ पर भूली हुई चोटों के / कितने निशान हैं / कि आती नहीं नींद उसकी कई क्रियाओं को / रात-रात भर / दुखते हैं अक्सर कई विशेषण।‘
भोजपुरी पर इसी नाम से उनकी कविता तो शायद उनकी सर्वोत्कृष्ट कविताओं में एक है- वह मास्टर स्ट्रोक इस कविता में भी दिखता है जिसने केदारनाथ सिंह को हिंदी के सार्वकालिक शीर्षस्थानीय कवियों के बीच रखे जाने की पात्रता दी है। वे लिखते हैं, ‘इसकी क्रियाएं / खेतों से आई थीं / संज्ञाएं पगडंडियों से / बिजली की कौंध और महुए की टपक ने / इसे दी थी अपनी ध्वनियां / शब्द मिल गए थे दानों की तरह / जड़ों में पड़े हुए / …..किताबें / जरा देर से आईं / इसलिए खो भी जाएं / तो डर नहीं इसे / क्योंकि ज़बान– / इसकी सबसे बड़ी लाइब्रेरी है आज भी।‘
भाषा के जरिए बनने वाली निजी पहचान और सार्वजनिक दुविधा को कवि कहीं कुछ हल्के और कहीं बहुत संवेदनशील आवाज़ में संग्रह की कुछ अन्य कविताओं में भी रखता है। ‘गमछा और तौलिया’ एक स्तर पर बहुत मामूली सी कविता जान पड़ती है, लेकिन एक ही साथ सूखते गमछे में निहित भदेसपन और तौलिए में निहित आभिजात्य पर प्यारी सी चुटकी दिख पड़ती है- ‘मैंने सुना- / तौलिया गमछे से कह रहा था / तू हिंदी में सूखरहा है / सूख / मैं अंग्रेज़ी में कुछ देर / झपकी ले लेता हूं।‘
तौलिए और गमछे को इस तरह बतियाते सुनने और कहने के लिए कान और कलेजा दोनों चाहिए। लेकिन यह कान और कलेजा आता कहां से है? शायद स्मृति के अपने जुड़ाव से, परंपरा की अपनी पहचान और उस पर अपने भरोसे से, और उस संवेदनशील आलोचनात्मक विवेक से, जिसमें आंख न बीते हुए कल को लेकर मुंदी हुई हो न मौजूदा आज में खोई हुई हो। ‘जैसे दिया सिराया जाता है’ इसी कलेजे के साथ लिखी हुई एक मार्मिक कविता है जो मां से शुरू होती है, गंगा नहा आने की उसकी ज़िद से। जब सारा शहर कलकत्ता सो रहा था तब कवि हथेलियों में उठाकर मां को लहरों में बहा देता है और फिर उसे याद आता है- बिना वीजा पासपोर्ट के तमाम पचड़ों से भरा यह सफ़र कैसे पूरा करेगी मां। अब कवि का बयान सुनिए– ‘तो मैंने भागीरथी से कहा / मां, / मां का खयाल रखना / उसे सिर्फ भोजपुरी आती है।‘ जिन्हें सिर्फ कविता आती है, वही समझ सकते हैं कि यह मां को, भागीरथी को और भोजपुरी को सबको बचा लेने का, सबको जोड़े रखने का जतन है। इस जतन में मां, भागीरथी और भोजपुरी अलग-अलग नहीं हैं। हिंदी और भोजपुरी भी अलग-अलग नहीं हैं। ‘देश और घर’ में कवि लिखता है, ‘हिंदी मेरा देश है / भोजपुरी मेरा घर / ….मैं दोनों को प्यार करता हूं / और देखिए न मेरी मुश्किल / पिछले साठ बरसों से / दोनों को दोनों में / खोज रहा हूं।‘यह परंपरा है जो कवि को बना-बचा रही है, यह कवि है जो परंपरा को बना-बचा रहा है।
इस परंपरा की ढेर सारी पदचापें पूरे संग्रह में जैसे जगह-जगह महसूस की जा सकती हैं। कुंभनदास से लेकर निराला के अलावा केदारनाथ की कविताओं में बार-बार दिखने वाले त्रिलोचन-शमशेर भी हैं और एक जगह तो अपने राजेंद्र यादव भी। एक कविता ज्यॉ पाल सार्त्र पर भी है। यह एक उदार परंपरा है जिसमें संकीर्णताओं के लिए जगह नहीं है, जहां वक्रताएं सरल और तरल होकर कविता में ढल जाती हैं।
संग्रह में कई ऐसी कविताएं हैं जो बिल्कुल किसी ‘उस्ताद’ के हाथों से ढल कर निकली हुई मालूम होती हैं। अचानक एक बेतुका सा खयाल आता है कि केदारनाथ सिंह हिंदी कविता की अपनी शैली में हमारे मीर तकी मीर हैं- बेहद सादा ज़ुबान में अपनी-आपकी बात कहते-कहते वे कुछ ऐसा कह जाते हैं जिसकी रोशनी में अनुभवों को नए सिरे से पहचानने का सुख मिलता है। पांवों के बारे में वे लिखते हैं, ‘चलना उनकी भाषा है / बैठना उनकी चुप्पी’
केदार नाथ सिह आज के समय के जरूरी कवि है..महानगर के बिराट शोर में रहते हुये वे अपने भीतर की आवाज ठीक से सुनते है.उनका लोक उनके अंदर जीवित है.वे कविता लिखते नही कविता जीते है.प्रियदर्शन ने बहुत माकूल समीक्षा की है.
