बिखर गया वह इंद्रधनुष
वे 18 साल से मृत्यु की छाया से जूझ रही थीं। या कहना चाहिए, मृत्यु की छाया उनसे 18 साल से जूझ रही थी। क्योंकि ‘जूझने’ जैसे शब्द में जो रुक्षता होती है, वह बहुत जुझारू होने के बावजूद अनुराधा में नहीं थी। वे शायद हर लड़ाई लड़ने या जीतने का एक ही तरीक़ा जानती थीं- लड़ाई से चुपचाप ऊपर उठ जाना। मृत्यु के साथ भी उन्होंने यही किया- वे जैसे उससे ऊपर उठ गईं। उसके अंदेशे को उन्होंने जैसे झटक दिया था और जीवन को जम कर जी रही थीं। इन 18 सालों में उन्होंने ख़ूब सैर की, न जाने कहां-कहां घूम आईं, सोशल मीडिया का दौर शुरू होने के बाद फेसबुक की दीवारों पर उनकी यात्राओं की तस्वीरें सजती रहीं, इसी दौरान उन्होंने कैंसर के अपने अनुभव पर एक पूरी किताब ‘इंद्रधनुष के पीछे-पीछे’ लिख डाली और बिल्कुल आखिरी दौर में कैंसर से लड़ते हुए ढेर सारी कविताएं भी लिखीं जिनका एक संग्रह ‘अधूरा कोई नहीं’ के नाम से बस डेढ़ महीने पहले आया है। इन सबके बीच उन्होंने सुरेंद्र प्रताप सिंह पर केंद्रित दो किताबें भी संपादित कर डालीं। इससे अलग एक मोर्चा कैंसर के ख़िलाफ़ खोला और उन समूहों का हिस्सा रहीं जो कैंसर पीड़ितों की मदद की कोशिश करते हैं।
इस पूरे 18 साल में मौत शक्लें और जगहें बदल-बदल कर अनुराधा पर हमले करती रही। 1998 में स्तन कैंसर का पहला ऑपरेशन हुआ और 2005 में दूसरा। इस दूसरे हमले से पहले जामिया के तीन छात्र उनकी इस लड़ाई पर फिल्म बना रहे थे। ‘भोर’ नाम की वह फिल्म दूसरे दौर के कैंसर की कीमोथेरेपी के बीच ही बनी। पूरी फिल्म में वायस ओवर के नाम पर अनुराधा की मृदु मज़बूत आवाज़ है जिसमें उन्होंने अपनी लडाई का एक और सूत्र छोड़ा। कहा कि कैंसर के खिलाफ लड़ाई में जिस्म बस मैदान होता है, लेकिन यह लड़ाई एक सामूहिक लड़ाई होती है जिसमें घरवाले-परिवारवाले, दोस्त और समाज मदद और रसद देते हैं। इसी भरोसे और मज़बूती से यह जंग वे लगातार जीतती भी रहीं।
लेकिन इस दौरान उनका जिस्म जैसे भीतर से तार-तार होता रहा। 2012 में कैंसर उसकी हड्डियों तक चला आया। यह टीसती हुई तकलीफ़ से एक नई मुठभेड़ थी जिससे अनुराधा कभी दवाओं से और कभी अपने हौसले से पार पाती रहीं। इसी दौरान एक कार्यक्रम में मिलने पर उन्होंने बताया कि उन्होंने इस बीच बहुत सारी कविताएं लिखी हैं। मैंने इसरार किया कि वे मुझे भेज दें। बाद में प्रभात रंजन ने उन्हें ‘जानकी पुल’ पर प्रकाशित किया और हिंदी की दुनिया ने कुछ पुलक और विस्मय के साथ अपनी इस नई कवयित्री को देखा। यहीं से निकला सिलसिला उनके पहले और आख़िरी कविता संग्रह तक पहुंचा।
जब यह संग्रह आया तो अनुराधा का फोन आया। उन्होंने अपनी कमज़ोर आवाज़ का बचा-खुचा बल जुटाते हुए बड़े उल्लास और आत्मीयता से बधाई दी और ली और घर पर बुलाया। 30 अप्रैल को मैंने आख़िरी बार उन्हें देखा। वे बेहद कमज़ोर हो चुकी थीं। एक कमरे से दूसरे कमरे तक आने में ही उन्हें ताकत लगानी पड़ी थी। लेकिन कुर्सी पर बैठने के बाद फिर उनके होंठों पर मुस्कुराहट थी। मैंने कहा, जल्दी से कुछ ताकत जुटाइए तो इस किताब पर एक कार्यक्रम की योजना बनाई जाए। अनुराधा की चेतना जैसे उनका साथ छोड़ना चाहती थी, लेकिन वे अपने ‘विट’ को जैसे पकड़े रहने की ज़िद में थीं। उन्होंने फिर कुछ बल जुटाया और मुस्कुराते हुए कहा कि हां, जिम-विम जाकर मसल्स मज़बूत करूंगी। उन्होंने अपनी किताब पर आड़ी-तिरछी कोशिशों के साथ मेरा नाम लिखा, कुछ भूलते-याद करते और पूछते हुए उस पर तारीख़ डाली और फिर कहा, अब कई चीज़ें फिसल रही हैं।
तब वे एम्स से लौटी ही थीं। ठीक दो या तीन दिन पहले मैं और स्मिता उन्हें देखने एम्स गए थे। वे आंखें मूंदे लेटी हुई थीं। हमने कोशिश की कि हमारे आने का उन्हें पता न चले। दिलीप को चुप रहने का इशारा किया। लेकिन अनुराधा को भनक हो चुकी थी। उन्होंने तुरंत बैठने की कोशिश की। बिना देखे हमें उनकी भुरभुराती हुई देह का अंदाजा हो रहा था और उनकी थकी हुई मुस्कुराहट के बावजूद यह अंदेशा जैसे हमारे भीतर सिर उठा रहा था कि हौसलों का यह हिमालय धीरे-धीरे हिल रहा है। वे तकलीफ़ में थीं, लेकिन स्मिता से देर तक बात करती रहीं। अपनी तबीयत पर बस इतना कहा कि दिलीप से पूछ लीजिएगा।
उनसे हमारा 20 साल पुराना साथ था। दिल्ली के पांडव नगर के एक बड़े से मकान के पिछले हिस्से में पहली मंजिल पर राजेश प्रियदर्शी के साथ मैं रहता था और दूसरी मंज़िल पर दिलीप मंडल। एक सुबह अनुराधा की दस्तक पर मैंने घर का फाटक खोला था और यह हमारे परिचय की शुरुआत थी। उसके बाद हम और वे मकान बदलते रहे- हम पांडव नगर से मयूर विहार और नोएडा होते हुए वसुंधरा में आ टिके, जबकि वे पांडव नगर से नोएडा, पटपड़गंज होते हुए दक्षिण दिल्ली के सरकारी आवास बदलते हुए पुष्प विहार पहुंच गए। इस दौरान बीस बरस बीत गए, मिलने-जुलने-और मिलने का वादा करने का सिलसिला बनता-टूटता रहा। लेकिन जब भी अनुराधा ने कुछ लिखा, मुझे पाठक बनाया। बरसों पहले एक दिन वे अपनी एक कॉपी लेकर हमारे घर पहुंची थीं जो कायदे से उनकी किताब ‘इंद्रधनुष के पीछे-पीछे” की पहली पांडुलिपि थी। उसे पढ़ते हुए मैंने फौरन कहा, इसे पूरा कर छपवाइए। किताब आई और राधाकृष्ण प्रकाशन के दावे के मुताबिक उनकी चर्चित किताबों में एक रही।
लेकिन इस सिलसिले को टूटना था। मौत को मालूम था कि अनुराधा सबसे मिल चुकी होगी तब उससे भी मिलेगी। शनिवार सुबह चंद्रभूषण के फोन से मेरी नींद टूटी और यह सिलसिला भी टूट गया। बाद में दिलीप ने संक्षिप्त बातचीत में बताया, अनुराधा के फेफड़ों ने काम करना बंद कर दिया था। मुझे लगा, मौत उसका जिस्म ले गई, अनुराधा को नहीं ले जा सकी।
हमने कई खुशनुमा और आत्मीय मुलाकातें साझा की थीं। शायद बीते साल कभी, हमने उनके घर आख़िरी बार साथ खाना खाया था। तब हमारा बेटा प्रखर इसी महीने 18 साल के हुए उनके बेटे राजू के साथ घूमने निकल गया था और दोनों बाहर से क़रीब डेढ़ घंटे बाद लौटे थे- खा-पीकर और हमारे लिए कुछ पैक कराकर। अनुराधा तब ज़्यादा खा नहीं पाई थीं, लेकिन प्रखर और राजू की तृप्ति देखकर तृप्त थीं।
मृत्यु शोक का विषय नहीं है- हम सबको मरना है, इस जाने-पहचाने सत्य के बावजूद शोक होता है। क्योंकि मृत्यु के साथ कुछ ऐसा छूट-टूट जाता है जो हमें भी कातर करता है। मरने वाले के साथ थोड़ा हम भी मर जाते हैं। हममें से बहुत सारे लोग गवाह हैं कि इन 20 बरसों में अऩुराधा ने अपने भीतर का कुछ भी मरने नहीं दिया था। उल्टे ज़िंदगी से जैसे वे एक-एक पल की क़ीमत वसूल रही थीं, अपने एक-एक दर्द, अपनी एक-एक तकलीफ का हिसाब अपनी हंसती हुई बेपरवाही से ले रही थीं। वे छक कर जी रही थी और उनके जीने में हम सबका जीना शामिल था।
वह कहीं से योद्धा नहीं दिखती थी, लेकिन एक विकट योद्धा थी। जैसे वह सारे युद्ध अपने भीतर ही झेलती थी। बाहर की असहमतियों का बड़ी मृदुता के साथ ज़िक्र करती और बड़ी मज़बूती से अपनी बात रखती। सरलता और सहजता के लगातार दुर्लभ होते गुण उनके भीतर बिल्कुल गुणसूत्रों की तरह कायम थे। वे आश्वस्ति की उजली मीनार थी जिनकी छाया में हम भी कुछ उजले हो जाते थे। शोक है तो बस यही है कि वह उजली मीनार अब बस हमारी स्मृतियों में रह गई है।
सच कहूं तो उनके बारे में कभी ज़्यादा नहीं जाना…पर उनके जाने के बाद जितना जाना तो कहीं एक हल्की कसक सी है कि ऐसी शख्सियत को जो न जान सका, उसने शायद कुछ खो भी दिया…बिना पाए हुए ही…|
वैसे देखा जाए तो कलम का धनी और ऐसी जिजीविषा से युक्त इंसान मर के भी नहीं मरता…| उनकी यादों को विनम्र श्रद्धांजलि…|
