डियर सज्जाद,
तुम्हारा खत मिला। मैं एक दिन के लिए ज़रा गोरखपुर चला गया था और वहां देर हो गयी। मैंने यहां एक ब्रांच (प्रगतिशील लेखक संघ) कायम करने की कोशिश की है। तुम उसके मुतल्लिक (प्रगतिशील आंदोलन संबंधी) जितना लिट्रेचर हो वो सब भेज दो, तो मैं यहां के लेखकों को एक दिन जमा करके बातचीत करूं, बनारस कदासतपरस्ती (रूडिवादिता) का अड्डा है और हमें मुखालफत का भी सामना करना पडे। लेकिन दो-चार भले आदमी तो मिल ही जाएंगे जो हमारे साथ सहयोग कर सकें। अगर मेरी स्पीच (लखनऊ प्रगतिशील लेखक संघ सम्मेलन भाषण) की एक उर्दु कापी भेज दो और उसका तर्जुमा अंग्रेजी में हो गया हो तो उसकी चंद कापियां और मेम्बरी के फार्म की चंद परतें और लखनऊ कांग्रेस की कार्रवाई की रिपोर्ट वगैरह तो मुझे यकीन है कि यहां शाखा खुल जाएगी।
फिर पटना भी जाऊंगा और वहां भी एक शाखा कायम करने की कोशिश करूंगा। आज बाबू संपूरनानन्द (संयुक्त प्रांत के तत्कालीन शिक्षा मंत्री) से इसी सिलसिले में कुछ बातें हुयीं। वो भी मुझी को आगे करना चाहते हैं। मैं भी चाहता था कि वो पेशकदमी करते,मगर शायद उन्हें मसरूफियतें बहोत हैं। बाबू जयप्रकाश नारायण से भी बातें हुयीं, उन्होंने प्रोगेसिव अदबी हफ्तेवार (साप्ताहिक) हिंदी में साया करने की सलाह दी जिसकी उन्होंने काफी जरूरत बतायी। जरूरत तो मैं भी समझता हूं, लेकिन सवाल पैसे का है। अगर हम कई शाखें हिन्दी वालों की कायम कर लें, तो मुम्किन है माहवार या हफ्तेवार अखबार चला सकें। अंग्रेजी अखबार का मसअला भी सामने है ही।
मैं समझता हूं कि हर बार एक जबान में एक प्रोग्रेसिव परचा चल सकता है। जरा मुसाइदी (लगन) की जरूरत है। मैं तो युं भी बुरी तरह फंसा हुआ हूं। फिक्रे-मआश (रोज़ी की फिक्र) भी करनी पडती है। फजूल का बहोत सा लिटरेरी काम भी करना पडता है। अगर हम में से कोई होल टाइम काम करने वाला निकल आए तो मरहला बडी आसानी से तय हो जाए। तुम्हे भी कानून ने गिरफ्त कर रखा है……खैर इन हालात में जो कुछ मुम्किन है वही किया जा सकता है।
तुम्हारा ‘बीमार’ (सज्जाद जहीर कृत एकांकी) तो मुझे अभी तक नहीं मिला। मिस्टर अहमद अली साहब क्या इलाहाबाद में हैं? उन्हें दो माह की छुट्टी है। वो अगर पहाड जाने की धुन में न हो, तो कई शहरों में दौरे कर सकते हैं और आगे के लिए उन्हें तैयार कर सकते हैं। बीमार अभी तक न भेजा हो,तो अब भेज दो।
यह खबर बहोत मसरर्तनाक (प्रसन्नता) है कि बंगाल और महाराष्ट्र में कुछ लोग तैयार हैं। हां यहां सूबेजाती (प्रांतीय) कांफ्रेंसें हो जाए तो अच्छा ही है और अगला जलसा पूजा में ही होना चाहिए, क्योंकि दूसरे मौके पर राइटरों का पहुंचना मुश्किल हो जाता है। फाकामस्ती की जमाअत जो ठहरी। वहां तो एक पंथ दो काज हो जाएगा।
हिन्दी वाले इन्फीरियटी काम्पलेक्स से मजबूर है। मगर गालेबन यह ख्याल तो नहीं है कि यह तहरीक उर्द वालों ने उन्हें फंसाने के लिए की है, अभी तक उनकी समझ में इसका मतलब ही न आया है। जब तक उन्हें जमा करके समझाया न जाएगा, युं ही तारीक़ी में पडे रहेंगे। एक नौजवान हिन्दी एडीटर ने जो देहली के एक सिनेमा अखबार का एडिटर है, हमारे जलसे पर यह एतराज किया है कि इस जलसे की सदारत (अध्यक्षता), तो किसी नौजवान को करनी चाहिए थी, प्रेमचंद जैसे बूढे आदमी इसके सद्र क्यों हुए ? उस अहमक को यह मालूम नहीं कि यहां वही जवान है जिसमें प्रोग्रेसिव रूह हो। जिसमें ऐसी रूह नहीं वो जवान होकर भी मुर्दा है।
नागपुर में मौलवी अब्दुल हक साहब भी तहरीक लाए थे उनसे दो रोज खूब बातें हुयीं। मौलाना इस सिनोसान में बडे जिंदादिल बुजुर्ग हैं।
क्या बताऊं मैं ज्यादा निकाल सकता, तो कानपुर क्या हर शहर में अपनी शाखें कायम कर देता। मगर यहां तो प्रूफ और खतूतनवीसी (खत लिखना) से फुरसत नहीं मिलती।
हां चोरी हुई (प्रेमचंद के घर में) मगर तशफ्फी (धैर्य) इस ख्याल से करने की कोशिश कर रहा हूं कि मुझे एक हजार रूपया अपने पास रखने का क्या हक़ था।
