जानकी पुल – A Bridge of World's Literature. जानकी पुल पर प्रकाशित लेखों में प्रकट विचार लेखक के होते हैं. उनसे मॉडरेटर का सहमत होना जरूरी नहीं है. हाँ, अपने लेखों में प्रकट विचारों के लिए मॉडरेटर खुद जिम्मेदार है
वह एक भरपूर बौद्धिक शाम थी. सच बताऊँ तो जबसे हिंदी में सेलिब्रिटी लेखकों का दौर चला है, पौपुलर-शौपुलर का जोर बढ़ा है हिंदी के मंचों से जैसे बौद्धिकता की विदाई ही हो गई है. आप किसी प्रोग्राम में चले जाइए आह-आह, वाह-वाह ही होता रह जाता है.
लेकिन उस शाम उम्मीद ऐसी नहीं थी. एक तो इसलिए कि 22 मई की शाम इण्डिया इंटरनेशनल सेंटर में वाणी प्रकाशन का 51 वां स्थापना दिवस आयोजन था. ऐसे मौकों पर आम तौर पर प्रकाशक अपनी उपलब्धियों का लेखा-जोखा रखते हैं या भविष्य की रुपरेखा बताते हैं, बढ़िया खाना(पीना) हुआ, मेलजोल हुआ, बस जय राम जी की!
लेकिन वाणी प्रकाशन ने उस दिन एक नई शुरुआत की. ‘कहानी किताब की’ नाम से किताबों की एथनोग्राफिक इतिहास को लेकर चर्चा का आयोजन था. दिल्ली की गोष्ठियों में आते-जाते 25 साल से ऊपर हो गए इतने अनूठे विषय पर पहली बार ही आयोजन देखा-सुना.
उम्मीद थी कि बहस अकादमिक होगी. शुरुआत में अभय कुमार दुबे ने किताबों की दुनिया की जटिलताओं को लेकर चर्चा करते हुए कहा कि इस दुनिया का कुछ निश्चित रूपाकार बनाया जाना संभव नहीं है. कार्यक्रम में पहला वक्तव्य दिया प्रसिद्ध लेखिका मृणाल पाण्डे ने. उन्होंने विस्तार से गुणाढय की वृहत कथा का हवाला देते हुए कहा कि जो एक अनिश्चितता का भाव होता है वही किताबों की दुनिया की सबसे बड़ी ब्यूटी है. उस दिन मृणाल जी को बोलते सुनना अद्भुत था. मैंने कभी मृणाल जी को इतनी तैयारी से, इतने मन से बोलते नहीं सुना. इतिहास, संगीत की अंतर्पाठीयता से उन्होंने हिंदी किताबों की विकास यात्रा को किस्सों के माध्यम से इस तरह से बताया कि सुनने वाला मंत्रमुग्ध ही हो सकता था.
लेकिन असली हस्तक्षेप किया प्रसिद्ध समाजशास्त्री, विद्वान् आशीष नंदी ने. उन्होंने वक्तव्य के आरम्भ में ही यह कहा कि किताबों की दुनिया कितनी पुरानी होगी- 800 साल या 1200 साल पुरानी, ज्ञान की दुनिया तो उससे बहुत पुरानी है. उन्होंने लिखित बनाम मौखिक परम्पराओं की चर्चा छेड़ कर बहस को एक नया आयाम दिया. उनके वक्तव्य में किताब एक आधुनिक अवधारणा बनकर आई और ज्ञान उस परम्परा का हिस्सा बनकर जो आधुनिकता से बहुत पुरानी है. उन्होंने कहा कि आज तकनीक के युग में हम ज्ञान को जैसे संचित करने लगे हैं उससे यह लगने लगा है कि मौखिक, पारंपरिक ज्ञान की कोई जरुरत ही नहीं रह गई है. लेकिन असल में ऐसा नहीं है. उन्होंने नेविगेशन की तकनीकों के उदाहरण के माध्यम से यह बताया कि जब ऐसा लगने लगा था कि तकनीकों के माध्यम से नेविगेशन की सारी जानकारी हासिल की जा चुकी है और उसके पारंपरिक ज्ञान का कोई मतलब नहीं है. लेकिन बाद में यह समझ में आया कि जो पारंपरिक ज्ञान की परम्परा उस सम्बन्ध में है वही असल में अधिक कारगर है नेविगेशन के मामले में. असल में, आधुनिकता ने सब कुछ का हल पा लेने के अंदाज में परम्परा को ख़ारिज तो कर दिया. लेकिन आज उसी पारम्परिक ज्ञान का महत्व समझ में आ रहा है. उन्होंने पारंपरिक चिकित्सा पद्धतियों के हवाले से इस बात की पुष्टि की. आशीष नंदी अंग्रेजी में बोल रहे थे. लेकिन जब विचारोत्तेजक बात कही जा रही हो तो भाषा दीवार नहीं बन पाती है.
मैंने कहा था न ऊपर ही. उस दिन भरपूर बौद्धिक खुराक मिली. एक यादगार बातचीत का साक्षी बना जिसने प्रेरित किया कि अपनी परम्पराओं को लेकर कुछ किया जाए, लिखा जाए, पढ़ा जाए- अच्छी बातचीत का यह भी हासिल होता है. आखिर अपनी परम्परा में विश्वास के बगैर क्या मार्केज़ ‘वन हंड्रेड इयर्स ऑफ़ सौलीट्युड’ लिख सकता था? यह सभ्यता आधुनिकता से बहुत पुरानी है. आधुनिकता तो उसका एक पड़ाव भर है.
मैं आभारी हूँ वाणी प्रकाशन का कि मुझे ऐसी गंभीर बातचीत का साक्षी बनने का अवसर दिया. अंत में, उस बातचीत के बाद घर लौटते हुए अकबर इलाहाबादी का यह शेर जेहन में आ रहा था-
हम ऐसी कुल किताबें काबिले-ज़ब्ती समझते हैं
कि जिनको पढ़के बेटे बाप को खब्ती समझते हैं
