सिनेमा के सन्दर्भ में ‘सवाक ‘ फिल्मों का आगमन प्रस्थान बिंदु की तरह स्मरण किया जाता है . बॉम्बे सिनेमा में इस तकनीक का भव्य स्वागत हुआ. स्पष्ट हो चुका था कि फ़िल्में पोपुलर तत्वों की और जाएंगी . स्पष्ट था कि गुजरा दौर यादों में बिसर जाने को है . एक चलन को आने में कभी– कभी वर्षो का इंतज़ार होता है . कभी हर वर्ष कुछ न कुछ नया देखने को मिल जाता है. हरेक फिल्म संदेश देकर कुछ अलग विचार को सींच सकती है. इसके मद्देनज़र फास्ट –फॉरवर्ड परिवर्तन का जो चलन फिल्मों में बढ़ा, उसने चौंका दिया . लेकिन यह परिवर्तन चलचित्रों की खास दुनिया तक सीमित नहीं है. विशेषकर इसे ‘आलमआरा‘ बाद दुनिया से जोड़कर देखा नहीं जाना चाहिए . दरअसल सिनेमा में यह बातें शुरू से मौजूद रहीं . साइलेंट फिल्मों का जहान चुपचाप रहकर भी मुकम्मल ‘सम्प्रेषण‘ का साधन था. परिवर्तन की धारा में संवाद की यह अनोखी दुनिया दुखद रूप से अदृश्य हो गयी .
लेकिन प्रथम सवाक फिल्म अपने नाम करने की दीवानगी तो देखें …
लगभग हर बडा निर्माता इतिहास का हिस्सा बनना चाह रहा था. इंपीरियल मूवीटोन के आर्देशिर ईरानी पास प्रतिस्पर्धा को मात देने की चुनौती थी . मदान थियेटर,इंपीरियल मूवीटोन एवं कृष्णा के बीच पहली टाकी बनाने को लेकर कडा संघर्ष था, लेकिन जीत का सेहरा यकीनी तौर पर‘आलमआरा’ के सिर बंधा’. जिसकी कहानी कुछ यूँ थी:
राजा की दो पत्नियों दिलबहार और नौबहार के बीच सौतन का झगड़ा है. एक फकीर की भविष्यवाणी कि‘राजा के उत्तराधिकारी को नौबहार जन्म देगी’ से सौतन पत्नियों मंी तल्खियां बढ जाती हैं. भविष्यवाणी पर क्रोधित दिलबहार राजा से बदला लेने के लिेए नित नई योजनाएं पर विचार करती है. पति और सौतन को सबक सिखाने के लिए वह राज्य के प्रमुख मंत्री ‘आदिल’ के सामने मुहब्बत का प्रस्ताव रखती है, आदिल से प्रेम का स्वांग रचकर वह राजा का मन जलाना चाहती है. महारानी राजा से बदला लेने का संकल्प लेती है . पति
