‘लमही सम्मान 2013’ के संयोजक के आपत्तिजनक बयान के बाद हमारे समय की महत्वपूर्ण लेखिका मनीषा कुलश्रेष्ठ ने लेखकीय गरिमा के अनुरूप उचित कदम उठाते हुए ‘लमही सम्मान’ को वापस करने का निर्णय लेते हुए ‘लमही सम्मान 2013 के आयोजक के नाम यह पत्र लिखा है. उनके भेजे हुए इस पत्र को हम अविकल प्रस्तुत कर रहे हैं-

मेरा निर्णय और निवेदन
मैं क्षमा पूर्वक ‘ लमही सम्मान –2013 ‘ लौटाने की घोषणा करती हूं। ‘ लमही सम्मान‘ के कर्ता – धर्ता एवं आयोजक श्री विजय राय जी को सम्मान की घोषणा हो जाने के लगभग एक वर्ष बाद और समारोह हो जाने के दो माह पश्चात यह अंतर्ज्ञान हुआ है कि उन पर निर्णायक मंडल का दबाव था या निर्णायक मंडल से चूक हो गई है, तो मैं उनके इस आकस्मिक अंतर्ज्ञान का संज्ञान लेते हुए, उन्हें इस दुविधा से मुक्त करते हुए यह सम्मान उन्हीं को वापस लौटाने का निर्णय ले रही हूँ।
मैंने अपनी ओर से विजय राय जी को ‘लमही सम्मान‘ के लिए अपनी पुस्तक और संस्तुति नहीं भिजवाई थी। न ही मेरा उनसे कोई परिचय या कोई संवाद था। पहली बार उनका फोन इस पुरस्कार हेतु घोषणा से पूर्व की सहमति के लिए आया था। मुझे प्रसन्नता होती अगर वे लमही के केंद्रित अंक के लिए सामग्री का आग्रह करने और पुरस्कार की घोषणा से पूर्व उन पर आ रहे दबावों के बारे में बेहतर निर्णय कर लेते, या कम से कम मुझे ही ऐसे दबावों से अवगत करा देते तो मैं उसी पल इस निर्णय को अस्वीकृत कर उन्हें इस दबाव से उबार लेती।
विजय राय जी बड़े हैं, उनसे क्षमा मांगे जाने की अपेक्षा रखने का संस्कार मुझे नहीं मिला है। किंतु इस प्रकरण में एक लेखक की लेखकीय प्रतिष्ठा की हानि तो हुई है , लमही सम्मान की भी विश्वसनीयता कम हुई है, अतः मैं ही क्षमा मांग लेती हूं कि मैं यह लमही – सम्मान रख न सकूंगी। क्योंकि आकस्मिक ” अंतर्ज्ञान ” के तहत हुई इस तथाकथित “चूक” और दबाव में लिए निर्णय के तहत पुरस्कार को रखने का अर्थ अपनी आत्मा पर बोझ रखना होगा। पंद्रह हज़ार रुपए की राशि का चैक और शाल और प्रशस्ति पत्र मैं शीघ्र अति शीघ्र लौटाना चाहती हूं ।
परंपरा शब्द ही प्रेमचंद के विराट रचनाशील व्यक्तित्व को बौना करने की कैंची है। प्रेमचंद परंपरा भंजक रहे हैं। मेरी विजय राय जी अपेक्षा है कि प्रेमचंद परिवार में जन्म लेकर, लमही सम्मान को रचनाशीलता के संदर्भ में न देख कर ‘प्रेमचंद परंपरा के निर्वहन‘, आयु सीमा की संकीर्णता के दायरे मे न बाँधे। हिन्दी में यह (कु) रीत बहुत दुर्भाग्यपूर्ण है। हम सब इसके वाहक न बनें। यह मेरा अंतिम निर्णय और अंतिम शब्द हैं, इस समस्त प्रकरण पर।

प्रेमचंद सूदखोर थे अथवा नहीं यह तो अन्यथा प्रश्न है जिसकी मीमांसा की जा सकती है, पर श्रीमान जी भविष्यवक्ता, आप निश्चित तौर से अशिष्ट और असभ्य हैं। उनके परिवार वालों की गलतियों के नाम पर आप जैसे बड़बोले आदमी ने उनके चरित्र पर जो आक्षेप लगाया है, वह अशोभनीय व निंदनीय है। मनीषा जी की उपलब्धियों की चर्चा करने के बजाये जो आपक कह रहे हैं, वह भी उसी ओछी राजनीति का हिस्सा हैं।
