चुभती-चुभती-सी ये कैसी पेड़ों से है उतरी धूप
आंगन-आंगन धीरे-धीरे फैली इस दोपहरी धूप
गर्मी की छुट्टी आयी तो गाँवों में फिर महके आम
चौपालों पर चूसे गुठली चुकमुक बैठी शहरी धूप
जिक्र उठा है मंदिर-मस्जिद का फिर से अखबारों में
आज सुबह से बस्ती में है सहमी-सहमी बिखरी धूप
बड़के ने जब चुपके-चुपके कुछ खेतों की काटी मेंड़
आये-जाये छुटके के संग अब तो रोज कचहरी धूप
झुग्गी-झोंपड़ पहुंचे कैसे,जब सारी-की-सारी हो
ऊँचे-ऊँचे महलों में ही छितरी-छितरी पसरी धूप
बाबूजी हैं असमंजस में, छाता लें या रहने दें
जीभ दिखाये लुक-छिप लुक-छिप बादल में चितकबरी धूप
घर आया है फौजी, जब से थमी है गोली सीमा पर
देर तलक अब छत के ऊपर सोती तान मसहरी धूप

ज़रा जब चाँद को थोड़ी तलब सिगरेट की उट्ठी
सितारे ऊंघते उट्ठे, तमक कर चांदनी उट्ठी
मुंडेरों से फिसल कर रात भर पसरा हुआ पाला
दरीचों पर गिरा तो सुब्ह अलसाई हुई उट्ठी
उबासी लेते सूरज ने पहाड़ों से जो माँगी चाय
उमड़ते बादलों की केतली फिर खौलती उट्ठी
सुलगते दिन के माथे से पसीना इस कदर टपका
हवा के तपते सीने से उमस कुछ हांफती उट्ठी
अजब ही ठाठ से लेटे हुए मैदान को देखा
तो दरिया के थके पैरों से ठंढी आह-सी उट्ठी
मचलती बूँद की शोखी, लरज़ते शाख पर मचली
चुहल बरसात को सूझी, शजर को गुदगुदी उट्ठी
तपाया दोपहर ने जब समंदर को अंगीठी पर
उफनकर साहिलों से शाम की तब देगची उट्ठी

ऊँड़स ली तू ने जब साड़ी में गुच्छी चाभियों वाली
हुई ये जिंदगी इक चाय ताजी चुस्कियों वाली
कहाँ वो लुत्फ़ शहरों में भला डामर की सड़कों पर
मजा देती है जो घाटी कोई पगडंडियों वाली
जिन्हें झुकना नहीं आया, शजर वो टूट कर बिखरे
हवाओं ने झलक दिखलायी जब भी आँधियों वाली
भरे-पूरे से घर में तब से ही तन्हा हुआ हूँ मैं
गुमी है पोटली जब से पुरानी चिट्ठियों वाली
बरस बीते गली छोड़े, मगर है याद वो अब भी
जो इक दीवार थी कोने में नीली खिड़कियों वाली
खिली-सी धूप में भी बज उठी बरसात की रुन-झुन
उड़ी जब ओढ़नी वो छोटी-छोटी घंटियों वाली
दुआओं का हमारी हाल होता है सदा ऐसा
कि जैसे लापता फाइल हो कोई अर्जियों वाली
लड़ा तूफ़ान से वो खुश्क पत्ता इस तरह दिन भर
हवा चलने लगी है चाल अब बैसाखियों वाली
बहुत दिन हो चुके रंगीनियों में शह्र की ’गौतम’
चलो चल कर चखें फिर धूल वो रणभूमियों वाली

हैं जितनी परतें यहां आसमान में शामिल
सभी हुईं मेरी हद्दे-उड़ान में शामिल
बढ़ा है शहर में रुतबा ज़रा हमारा भी
हुए हैं जब से हम उनके बयान में शामिल
उछाल यूँ ही नहीं बढ़ गई है लहरों की
नदी का ज़ोर भी है कुछ, ढ़लान में शामिल
धुआँ, गुबार, परिंदे, तपिश, घुटन, खुश्बू
हैं बोझ कितने, हवा की थकान में शामिल
थीं किस्त जितनी भी ख़्वाबों की बेहिसाब पड़ी
किया है नींद ने सबको लगान में शामिल
बुझी ज़रूर है, लेकिन धुयें की एक लकीर
है अब भी शमअ के सुलगे गुमान में शामिल
तेरी ज़बान पे आऊँ तो मोतबर हो जाऊँ
मुझे भी कर ले कभी दास्तान में शामिल
कुचल के रख दो भले तुम सवाल सारे अभी
कभी तो होगे मेरे इम्तिहान में शामिल
ज़रा-सी दोस्ती क्या काफ़ियों ने की हमसे
किया ग़ज़ल ने हमें ख़ानदान में शामिल

न समझो बुझ चुकी है आग गर शोला न दिखता है
दबी होती है चिंगारी, धुँआ जब तक भी उठता है
बड़े हो तुम कि तुम तो चाँदनी से घर सजाते हो
हमारी झुग्गियों में चाँद भी छन-छन के चुभता है
गया वो इस अदा से छोड़ कर चौखट कि मत पूछो
हर इक आहट पे अब देखो ये दरवाजा तड़पता है
बना कर इस कदर ऊँचे महल, तू छीन मत मुझसे
हवा का एक झोंका जो मेरी खिड़की में रहता है
चलो, चलते रहो, पहचान रुकने से नहीं बनती
बहे दरिया तो पानी पत्थरों पर नाम लिखता है
वो बचपन में कभी जो तितलियाँ पकड़ी थीं बागों में
बरस बीते, न अब तक रंग हाथों से उतरता है
बता ऐ आस्मां कुछ तो कि करने चाँद को रौशन
तपिश दिन भर लिये सूरज भला क्यूं रोज़ जलता है
कहो मत खोलने मुट्ठी हमारी, देख लो पहले
कि कैसे बंद मुट्ठी से यहाँ तूफ़ान रिसता है
किताबें बंद हैं यादों की जब सारी मेरे मन में
ये किस्से जेह्न में माजी के रह-रह कौन पढ़ता है
कई रातें उनिंदी करवटों में बीतती हैं जब
कि तब जाकर नया कोई ग़ज़ल का शेर बनता है

धूप लुटा कर सूरज जब कंगाल हुआ
चाँद उगा फिर अम्बर मालामाल हुआ
साँझ लुढ़क कर ड्योढ़ी पर आ फिसली है
आँगन से चौबारे तक सब लाल हुआ
जिक्र छिड़ा है जब भी उनका यारों में
खुश्बू खुश्बू सारा ही चौपाल हुआ
उम्र वहीं ठिठकी है, जब तुम छोड़ गये
लम्हा, दिन, सप्ताह, महीना, साल हुआ
धूप अटक कर बैठ गयी है छज्जे पर
ओसारे का उठना आज मुहाल हुआ
चुन-चुन कर वो देता था हर दर्द मुझे
चोट लगी जब खुद को तो बेहाल हुआ
कल तक जो देता था उत्तर प्रश्नों का
आज वही उलझा-सा एक सवाल हुआ
छुटपन में जिसकी संगत थी चैन मेरा
उम्र बढ़ी तो वो जी का जंजाल हुआ

हमारे हौसलों को ठीक से जब जान लेते हैं
अलग ही रास्ते फिर आँधी औ’ तूफ़ान लेते हैं
बहुत है नाज़ रुतबे पर उन्हें अपने, चलो माना
कहाँ हम भी किसी मगरूर का अहसान लेते हैं
तपिश में धूप की बरसों पिघलते हैं कई परबत
जरा फिर लुत्फ़ नदियों का यहाँ मैदान लेते हैं
हुआ बेटा बड़ा हाक़िम, भला उसको बताना क्या
कि करवट बाप के सीने में कुछ अरमान लेते हैं
हो बीती उम्र शोलों पर ही चलते-दौड़ते जिनकी
कदम उनके कहाँ कब रास्ते आसान लेते हैं
इशारा वो करें बेशक उधर हल्का-सा भी कोई
इधर हम तो खुदाया का समझ फ़रमान लेते हैं
है ढ़लती शाम जब, तो पूछता है दिन थका-सा रोज
“सितारे डूबते सूरज से क्या सामान लेते हैं?”

देख पंछी जा रहें अपने बसेरों में
चल, हुई अब शाम, लौटें हम भी डेरों में
सुब्ह की इस दौड़ में ये थक के भूले हम
लुत्फ़ क्या होता है अलसाये सबेरों में
अब न चौबारों पे वो गप्पें-ठहाकें हैं
गुम पड़ोसी हो गयें ऊँची मुँडेरों में
बंदिशें हैं अब से बाजों की उड़ानों पर
सल्तनत आकाश ने बाँटी बटेरों में
देख ली तस्वीर जो तेरी यहाँ इक दिन
खलबली-सी मच गयी सारे चितेरों में
जिसको लूटा था उजालों ने यहाँ पर कल
ढ़ूँढ़ता है आज जाने क्या अँधेरों में
कब पिटारी से निकल दिल्ली गये विषधर
ये सियासत की बहस, अब है सँपेरों में
गज़नियों का खौफ़ कोई हो भला क्यूं कर
जब बँटा हो मुल्क ही सारा लुटेरों में
भीड़ में गुम हो गये सब आपसी रिश्ते
हर बशर अब कैद है अपने ही घेरों में

आईनों पर आज जमी है काई, लिख
झूठे सपनों की सारी सच्चाई, लिख
जलसे में तो खुश थे सारे लोग मगर
क्या जाने क्यूं रोती थी शहनाई, लिख
साहिल के रेतों पर या फिर लहरों पर
इत-उत जो भी लिखती है पुरवाई, लिख
रात ने जाते-जाते क्या कह डाला था
सुब्ह खड़ी है जाने क्यूं शरमाई, लिख
किसकी यादों की बारिश में धुल-धुल कर
भीगी-भीगी अब के है तन्हाई, लिख
रूहों तक उतरे हौले-से बात कहे
कोई तो अब ऐसी एक रुबाई, लिख
छंद पुराने, गीत नया ही कोई रच
बूढ़े बह्र पे ग़ज़लों में तरुणाई लिख

जब तौलिये से कसमसाकर ज़ुल्फ उसकी खुल गयी
फिर बालकोनी में हमारे झूम कर बारिश हुई
करवट बदल कर सो गया था बिस्तरा फिर नींद में
बस आह भरती रह गयी प्याली अकेली चाय की
इक गुनगुनी-सी सुब्ह शावर में नहा कर देर तक
बाहर जब आई, सुगबुगा कर धूप छत पर जग उठी
उलझी हुई थी जब रसोई सेंकने में रोटियाँ
सिगरेट के कश ले रही थी बैठकी औंधी पड़ी
इक फोन टेबल पर रखा बजता रहा, बजता रहा
उट्ठी नहीं वो ‘दोपहर’ बैठी रही बस ऊँघती
लौटा नहीं है दिन अभी तक आज आफिस से, इधर
बैठी हुई है शाम ड्योढ़ी पर ज़रा बेचैन-सी
क्यूँ खिलखिला कर हँस पड़ा झूला भला वो लॉन का
आई ज़रा जब झूलने को एक नन्ही-सी परी
