यह एक अजीब विरोधाभास है. हिंदी पट्टी भारत में राजनीतिक रूप से सबसे जाग्रत मानी जाती है. माना जाता है कि देश में राजनीतिक बदलावों की भूमिका इन्हीं क्षेत्रों में लिखी जाती रही है. लेकिन सबसे कम राजनीतिक उपन्यास हिंदी में लिखे गए हैं. बिहार, उत्तर प्रदेश में इतने तरह तरह के राजनीतिक प्रयोग हुए, इतने राजनीतिक व्यक्तित्व हुए, जिनमें जबरदस्त राजनैतिक संभावनाएं भी हैं. लेकिन उनको लेकर कुछ लिखा नहीं गया.
दूसरे स्तर पर यह सच्चाई है कि हिंदी का जो साहित्य है वह राजनीतिक चेतना से सबसे अधिक लोडेड होता है. जिसे हिंदी में मुख्यधारा का साहित्य माना जाता रहा है उसमें वैचारिक राजनीतिक चेतना, सजगता पर्याप्त होती है लेकिन समकालीन मुख्यधारा की राजनीति के कथानक नहीं मिलते. उँगलियों पर गिने जाने लायक हैं. मुझे आखिरी बढ़िया राजनीतिक उपन्यास जो याद आता है वह ‘बिश्रामपुर का संत’ है, जो श्रीलाल शुक्ल ने लिखा था.
प्रेमचंद ने यह कहा जरूर था कि साहित्य राजनीति के आगे चलने वाली मशाल की तरह होती है लेकिन उनके कई उपन्यासों में तत्कालीन गांधीवादी आन्दोलन की झलक साफ़ दिखाई देती थी. चाहे ‘रंगभूमि’ हो या ‘कर्मभूमि’ या ‘सेवासदन’. उनके उपन्यासों में तत्कालीन राजनीतिक बहसें खूब होती थी. उनके उपन्यासों को पढ़ते हुए तत्कालीन राजनीति के प्रमुख मुद्दों को समझा जा सकता था.
लेकिन आजादी के बाद इस तरह का लेखन कम होता गया. देश में चाहे कितने बड़े राजनीतिक बदलाव हो जाएँ, उथल-पुथल हो जाए समकालीन हिंदी साहित्य में उसकी कोई झलक नहीं दिखाई देती है. हाँ, कविता की विधा जरूर इसका अपवाद है.
इसका एक कारण मुझे यह लगता है कि हिंदी भाषा बहुत अधिक सरकारी बैसाखी पर निर्भर भाषा रही है. राष्ट्रभाषा, राजभाषा के द्वंद्व में फंसी इस भाषा को हमेशा सरकारी मदद की दरकार रही है. इसीलिए हिंदी के प्रकाशक भी ऐसी रचनाएँ छपने से बचते रहे हैं जिनको सरकारी खरीद में बेचना मुश्किल हो. इसी तरह मध्यवर्गीय लेखक भी इस आस में जीते हैं कि सरकार की कुछ नजरे इनायत उनके ऊपर हो जाए इसलिए वे ऐसा कुछ नहीं लिखते हैं जिससे उनको सरकारों या नेताओं के कोप का भजन बनना पड़े.
हिंदी का लेखन अभी यथास्थितिवाद के दौर से गुजर रहा है. ऐसे दौर में समाज की बुराइयों को उजागर करने के लिए तो खूब साहित्य लिखा जा रहा है, अच्छा लिखा जा रहा है लेकिन राजनीति पर कोई कलम नहीं चलाना चाहता.
हिंदी को इस द्वंद्व से निकलना होगा.
