आजकल हिंदी में बेस्टसेलर की चर्चा के बीच अपमार्केट हिंदी लेखकों की धूम मची हुई. इसका मतलब यह नहीं है कि गांवों, कस्बों में हिंदी लेखक ख़त्म हो चुके हैं. हिंदी की जड़ें आज भी वहीं हैं और उसके लेखक पाठक अभी भी वहां से खाद-पानी पाते रहते हैं. ऐसे एक लेखक हैं मिथिलेश कुमार राय. हिंदी लेखक के दूसरे किनारे पर बैठे लेकिन बहुत मजबूती से अपना लेखन करते हुए. आज एक बानगी और देखिये. बाढ़ को जीते हुए, बाढ़ से उबरते हुए लिखा हुआ पनियल गद्य- मॉडरेटर

बाढ़ ऐसे आई आकर चली गई
बाढ़ आने से पहले

ऐसा नहीं है कि गाँव-घर में अचानक से पानी आ गया होगा और लोगों को संभलने का जरा सा भी मौका नहीं मिला होगा. हुआ ये होगा कि बाढ़ आने से पहले बाढ़ आ जाने की आशंका हुई होगी. इलाके में हल्ला हो गया होगा. लोगों ने इधर-उधर फोन लगाया होगा. कहीं से उम्मीद की कोई सूचना नहीं मिली होगी. तब चिन्ता और उदासी का मिला-जुला भाव चेहरे पर पसरने लगा होगा. परिवार के सदस्यों ने और गाँव समाज के लोगों ने यह विचार किया होगा कि बाजार जाकर आवश्यक सामान ले आया जाए. लेकिन इस मूसलाधार बारिश में कोई निकले भी तो कैसे. पर बिना निकले बनेगा भी तो नहीं. लोगों ने तय किया होगा कि फलाने को टेंपो लेकर चलने के लिए कहा जाए. दो-चार आदमी शेष लोगों से उनके आवश्यक सामानों के पैसे लेकर चले जाएंगे और जल्दी से वापस लौट आएंगे. यही किया गया होगा. बाढ़ के डर से घर छोड़ देने का जिक्र किसी ने नहीं किया होगा. गर बाढ़ आएगी तो गाँव में पानी भी आएगा. हो सकता है थोड़ा सा ही पानी आए और एकाध दिन रूककर चला जाए. सावन-भादो में ऐसा होना कोई नई बात तो है नहीं. सो, नमक-तेल, चीनी-चाय की पत्ती वगैरह-वगैरह ले आने की ही बातें दिमाग में आई होंगी.
किसी लड़के ने यह सूचना दी होगी कि लगातार बारिश होते रहने के कारण नहर के पास का बिजली का खंभा गिर गया है. सो पता नहीं बिजली कितने दिनों तक नहीं आएगी. तब लोगों में मोबाइल चार्जिंग को लेकर भी चिन्ता उभरने लगी होगी.
दरवाजे पर बंधे पशु को पुचकार कर सूखी भूसी खिलाया जाने लगा होगा. वे समझ रहे होंगे कि इस घनी बारिश में मालिक मेरे लिए हरी घास कहाँ से लाएंगे. आटा-चोकर के सहारे वे सूखी भूसी निगल रहे होंगे. लेकिन चार कदम नहीं चल पाने के कारण उनका मन नहीं लगता होगा और वे कभी भी रंभाने लगते होंगे.
रात की नींद उड़ गई होगी. लेकिन भिनसरे में नींद दबोच लेता होगा. ऐसे ही एक तड़के सुबह झिंझोर कर उठाया गया होगा. कहा गया होगा कि पानी सड़क के उपर से बहने लगा है. वह दरवाजे तक चढ आया है और आंगन में फैल रहा है. सुनकर दिमाग सुन्न हो गया होगा. गाँव में हो रही शोर कानों तक गया होगा. घर से निकल कर सड़क तक आया होगा. पता चला होगा की धार (नदी) की बांध टूट गई है. अब पानी और बढ़ेगा. बढ़ता ही जाएगा. फिर पता चला होगा कि गाँव की सड़कें भी दो-तीन जगहों से टूट गई हैं. कुछ लोग कब के निकल गए हैं. अब वही है जिनके पास पशु है. सुनकर दिल बैठने लगा होगा.
आँगन आकर परिचितों से फोन पर हाल-चाल लेने का प्रयास किया गया होगा. लेकिन लाख प्रयास के बाद भी फोन कहीं नहीं लगा होगा. मन में तरह-तरह की अाशंकाएं जनमने लगी होंगी. तभी किसी ने हाँक लगाई होगी कि पानी बढ़ता ही जा रहा है. कहीं ऐसा न हो कि हम गाँव में ही कैद होकर रह जाए और यहीं मर-खप जाए. सारे लोग निकल रहे हैं. लोग एनएच पर शरण ले रहे हैं. जल्दी निकलो घर से.
जल्दी-जल्दी जरूरी सामान बाँधा गया होगा. बच्चों को गोद में लिया गया होगा. घर में ताला लगा दिया गया होगा. गाय-बछड़े की रस्सी को खूंटें से खोलकर हाथ में ले लिया गया होगा और सारे लोग कमर तक फैल चुके पानी में उतर गए होंगे. आगे-आगे कुछ युवा लाठी लिए चल रहे होंगे. वे पानी में लाठी को उतारकर देख रहे होंगे कि कहीं गहरे गड्ढे तो नहीं पड़ गए हैं. निश्चिंत होकर वे पांव रखते होंगे. काफिला उनके कदमों का अनुशरण करता होगा.
बच्चे को गोद में लिए साड़ी पहनी महिलाओं को पानी में चलने में परेशानी हो रही होंगी. वे घूंघट की ओट से मुड़-मुड़कर घर की तरफ देख लेती होंगी. उनका दिल रो रहा होगा. वे बच्चों को छाती से चिपटा लेती होंगी. तभी किसी ने कहा होगा कि आ गया एसएच. इस पर चलते हुए हम एनएच पर पहुंच जाएंगे. तब जाकर थोड़ी सी राहत मिली होगी. पानी में चल रहे पैर थोड़े से तेज हो गए होंगे.

बाढ़ के बाद राहत शिविरों या अपने किसी रिश्तेदार के यहाँ घर लौटने के दिन गिन रहे शरणार्थी किसी दिन अचानक ही घर की ओर दौड़ नहीं लगा देते होंगे. पहले वे अपने किसी जानने वाले से यह खबर लेते होंगे कि अब गाँव की हालत कैसी है. क्या वहां रहने के हालात हैं. पानी सड़क से नीचे उतरा है कि नहीं. लेकिन कही गई बातों पर उनका मन नहीं मानता होगा. तब एक सुबह परिवार को वहीँ छोड़कर वे गाँव को देखने निकल पड़ते होंगे.
गाँव की सीमा में कदम रखते ही अपनत्व का भाव उनके सीने में उमड़ पड़ता होगा. वे जगह-जगह से टूट चुकी सड़कों को निहारते होंगे. जड़ से उखड़ चुके वृक्षों को देखते होंगे. सड़क के दोनों ओर के खेतों में सड़-गल चुके धान के बिरवों की ओर उनकी दृष्टि जाती होगी. बार-बार उनका कलेजा मुँह को आ जाता होगा. दृश्य देखकर बुक्का फाड़कर उनका रोने का मन करने लगता होगा. लेकिन तभी कोई उन्हें टोक देता होगा. इशारों-इशारों में बात होती होगी कि सब खत्म हो गया भाई. न तो जूट की आश रही और न ही धान का कोई भरोसा. उन्हीं से पता चलेगा कि गाँव में अब लोग लौटने लगे हैं. लौटना तो पड़ेगा ही. कहाँ रहेंगे. कितने दिन रहेंगे.
दुलक चलते वह वहाँ से आगे बढ़ जाता होगा. रास्ते में दो-चार आदमी मिलते होंगे. सब बाल-बच्चे की खैरियत पूछता होगा. वह सबको बताता होगा कि सब ठीक है. अपने घर के पास आकर वह ठिठक जाता होगा. सड़क पर खड़े-खड़े वह कुछ देर वहीं से अपने आशियाने को निहारता होगा. आदमी के नहीं रहने से घर कितना भूतहा लगने लगता है. वह यह सोचता होगा और दरवाजे पर उतर जाता होगा.
दरवाजे की सूरत कितनी बिगड़ गई है. फूल के सारे पौधे कहाँ अलोपित हो गए. तभी उसकी एक ओर से पूरी तरह से झूक गई बैठकी पर जाती होगी. वह बैठकी के अंदर चला जाता होगा. वह देखता होगा कि जिधर से बैठकी झूकी हुई है, पानी के करंट से वहाँ गड्ढा जैसा हो गया है. वह सोचता होगा कि गड्ढे को भरकर बाँस के नये खुट्टे लगाने पड़ेंगे. तभी बैठना संभव हो पाएगा. फिर वह आँगन की तरफ मुड़ जाता होगा.
अरे! उसकी नजर रसोई-घर की तरफ जाती होगी. आँगन में रसोई-घर चारों खाने चित्त नजर आता होगा. उसके चेहरे पर परेशानी की रेखाएं घनी हो जाती होगी. ईंट का रसोई-घर होता तो न गिरता. वह सोचता होगा और रहने के घर की तरफ देखने लगता होगा. सखुआ के खूंटे पर टंगे टीन की छपरी उसे सही-सलामत नजर आती होगी. वह कुरते की जेब से चाभी टटोलकर दरवाजा खोलता हाेगा. गंध का एक भभुका उसके नथुने से टकराता होगा. वह एक कदम पीछे हटकर घर के अंदर के सामानों का मुआयना करता होगा. देखता होगा की अधिकतर सामान बंद कमरे में सूखने की कोशिश कर रहे हैं लेकिन नहीं सूख पाने के कारण गंध से लिपटे हुए हैं. वह कमरे को खुला छोड़ देता होगा और घर के पिछवाड़े बाड़ी तक आ जाता होगा.
बाड़ी का जंगल कितना घना हो गया है. उसे आम का एक पेड़ आधा उखड़ कर एक तरफ झूका हुआ नजर आता होगा. वह देखता होगा कि केले के सारे पौधे या तो कटे या उखड़कर बह गए हैं. उसकी नजर भूसे की झोंपड़ी की तरफ जाती होगी. वह देखता होगा कि वह छिन्न-भिन्न हो गया है. भूसे सारे बह गए है. जो बचे हैं वे सड़ गए हैं. वह आँगन आकर घर में ताला लगाता होगा और निकलने की सोचने लगता होगा. देर हो जाने पर सवारी की किल्लत की बात उसके जेहन में बार-बार आती होगी. सड़क पर उसे कोई कहता हाेगा कि अब मुआवजा मिलेगा. कागज पर नाम चढ़ाना पड़ेगा. जल्दी आ जाना. घर-द्वार को रहने लायक बनाने में ही दो-चार दिन लग जाएंगे. वह कुछ नहीं बोलता होगा. सोचता होगा कि बच्चे की माँ को यहाँ का हाल बताएगा. तब जो विचार होगा वह किया जायेगा.
