सुहैब अहमद फ़ारूक़ी पुलिस अधिकारी हैं लेकिन संजीदा शायर हैं और अच्छे गद्यकार भी हैं। हम पहले भी पातालकोट पर लिखी उनकी रिव्यू पढ़ चुके हैं। आज मदरसे में पढ़ने के उनके अनुभव पढ़िए। इससे मंडरा शिक्षा की एक झलक भी मिल जाती है-

मदरसा और उसमें दी जाने वाली शिक्षा को लेकर राजनैतिक और धार्मिक तौर पर बहुत कुछ कहा व लिखा जा चुका है। मैं उपरोक्त दोनों क्षेत्रों में, क्रमश: सरकारी नौकर व अल्पज्ञानी होने के कारण किसी प्रकार की टिप्पणी कर सकने में अक्षम हूँ किन्तु, मदरसा एजुकेशन के नाम पर मुझे जो सबसे पहली चीज़ याद आती है वह है हाफ़िज्जी की चार फुटी शहतूत की क़म्मच जिसकी नरमी और लचक अच्छी भली नवयौवनाओं के शारीरिक उतार-चढ़ाव को लज्जित करती थी। आह! कारुणिक दृश्य में श्रृंगार-रस का वर्णन(मन बड़ा चंचल है ). उस शहतूत की क़म्मच के अनुशासन के समक्ष, अब तक बिताए निजी और सार्वजनिक जीवन में प्राप्त समस्त ‘अनुशासनात्मक-कार्यवाहियाँ ‘ नतमस्तक हैं। लपक कर कमर पर अमरबेल की तरह ऐसी चिपकती थी कि यदि चिपकी ही रहती तो श्रृंगार रस की अनुभूति होती लेकिन वह तो अलग होते हुए त्वचा की पहली पर्त उतार ले जाती और वियोग स्वरुप, विरह के मारे शरीर पर हलकी गुलाबी रंग की रेखाएं छोड़ जाती जो कालान्तर में बैंगनी होती हुई काली पड़ जाती थीं। भाईसाहब वो ‘हसीन-दर्द’ मिलता था जिसे कोई भी ‘गले लगाना’ वहन नहीं कर सकता था।
मेरे बचपन के तीन सुन्दर वर्ष मेरे पैतृक गाँव में बीते हैं जब मैंने टाट-पट्टी और तख़्ती वाले ‘फ़रीदी नर्सरी स्कूल’ में पढ़ने के साथ साथ अपनी पारिवारिक मस्जिद वाले मदरसे से धार्मिक-शिक्षा भी प्राप्त की थी। ये आपातकाल के तुरंत बाद का समय था। माताजी के कथनानुसार यह ‘अमरजन्सी’ हमारे स्वर्गवासी पिता की सरकारी नौकरी के चलते हम लोगों पर एटा नगर के रहने और मिशनरी स्कूल की पढ़ाई को छोड़ वापस गावँ में आ बसने के लिए लागू हुई थी। यह उन दिनों की बात है जब ग्रामीण-शिक्षा के अंतर्गत गुरु को बच्चा यह कह कर सौंपा जाता था कि ‘खाल-खाल आपकी ; हड्डी हड्डी हमारी ‘ और गुरुजन भी, ईश्वर उनको बैकुंठ दिखाए, इस मुहावरे को अक्षरश: शत-प्रतिशत सत्य सिद्ध करने के प्रयत्न में कोई चेष्टा उठा नहीं रखते थे। अब आकर ‘बैकुंठ दिखाए’ वाले आशीर्वचन मुख से निकल रहे हैं वरना उस समय तो यदि उनके पिता के फूफा का भी नि:धन होता था तो वातावरण में किसी उत्सव के जैसा प्रकाश फैल जाता था अर्थात, ‘वधस्थल’ से तात्कालिक रिहाई बोले तो मदरसे में छुट्टी होना। आनंदतिरेक में ऐसे ऐसे वाक्यांशों का उदगार होता था कि अब झेंप आती है। बानगी देखिये, ” अबे ज़फ़र (DrZafar Iqbal Farooqui) सुन, मज़ा आ गया। हाफिज्जी के फूफा मर गए , आज छुट्टी हो गयी। अब ज़फ़र की आशा देखें, “यार मुन्ना! मज़ा जब आता तब हाफिज्जी मर जाते, पूरे एक हफ्ते की छुट्टी होती। ” ईश्वर क्षमा करे! उपरोक्त कामनाएं हाफिज्जी से निजी शत्रुता अभिव्यक्त नहीं करती थीं बल्कि वे तो मात्र उनकी क़म्मच द्वारा हम निरीहों पर किये गए क्रूर अत्याचारों के विरोध का प्रकटन थीं।
क़म्मच वैसे तो बेज़ुबान थी लेकिन उसकी एक ही फटकार से हम लोगों की जुबानें तोतों की तरह फर्र फर्र और टर्र टर्र चले लगती थीं। क़म्मच का चुनाव हाफिज्जी उस बच्चे की बुद्धि और नीयत पर छोड़ते थे जो सबसे पहले अपना पाठ याद करके सुना देता था और ‘अन्य-पिछड़ा-वर्ग’ को विकसित करने के लिए क़म्मच लाने जैसा महती-कार्य निष्पादित करता था। छबड़े बनाने के अतिरिक्त शहतूत के पेड़ का दूसरा महत्वपूर्ण उपयोग भारत की ग्रामीण प्राथमिक शिक्षा के उत्थान में रहा है।’प्रथम-स्थान’ का पुरूस्कार उन दिनों आजकल के शैक्षिक-परिवेश की भांति नहीं मनाया जाता था तब प्रथम आया बालक, स्वयं को परपीड़ा से आनंदित कर, पुरुस्कृत होने का सुख प्राप्त करता था। वह बात अलग थी कि मदरसे के बाहर छुट्टी के बाद दण्डप्राप्त बच्चों द्वारा प्रतिकारस्वरूप प्रथम-स्थान आये बच्चे का ही ‘पुरूस्कार-वितरण-समारोह’ आयोजित हो जाता।
गर्मियों में मदरसे की दूसरी शिफ्ट ‘ज़ुहर’ के बाद लगती थी। तब क़म्मच की छत्र-छाया और हाफिज्जी के आसन्न प्रकोप के बावजूद सड़ी हुई गर्मी में भी ऐसी झटकेदार नींद आती थी वैसी अब एयर-कंडीशनर और कूलर सुसज्जित कमरों में नहीं सुलभ। मेरा विचार है ‘नींद समभाव की एक अवस्था है जो साधन-सम्पन्नता पर निर्भर नहीं करती।’
विद्रोह के स्वाभाविक उत्साह में आकर एक बार मदरसे लगने के समय में, मैं अपने एक अन्य विद्रोही सहचर के संग, गाँव के बाहर आम के बाग़ों की सैर पर चला गया। यह विद्रोह भी भारतीय प्रथम स्वतंत्रता संग्राम की तरह सुनियोजित और संगठित नहीं था तो उसी दिन कुचल दिया गया। हुआ यूं कि हाफिज्जी की ‘चाय’ उस दिन हमारे घर से जानी थी। घर पर भेजे गए बच्चे से माँ ने मेरे बारे में पूछ लिया तो मदरसे से ‘अनुपस्थिति’ पता चल गई। हाफिज्जी की एक ही ललकार पर विद्रोह को कुचलने एवं पुण्य-प्राप्ति हेतु सात-आठ मुश्टंडे प्रकार के बच्चे धावा मारने को तुरंत तैयार हो गए। जब तक सरकारी-कुमुक का समाचार हम विद्रोहियों तक पहुँचता, विलम्ब हो गया था। ‘दूसरा-बाग़ी’ पलायन-मार्ग से परिचित होने के कारण फरार होने में सफल हुआ किन्तु मैं ‘शहरी-बालक’ वीरगति को प्राप्त हुआ। अर्थात, अर्थी को उठाने के लिए मात्र चार कंधे पर्याप्त होते हैं। यहाँ तो पुण्य-प्राप्ति की लूट मची थी। जिस-जिस ने ‘नाम’ नामक हिंदी चित्रपट देखा हो तो उनको स्मरण दिलाता हूँ कि शत्रुओं द्वारा घिरने पर संजय दत्त के डायलॉग “एक निहत्थे आदमी के लिए छ: छ: आदमी” और “पहला क़दम बढ़ने वाले को ज़िंदा नहीं छोड़ूंगा” आदि-आदि मेरे जीवन की इसी परिस्थति से लिए गए थे। बोले तो लाद लिया गया ‘मुन्ना-भाई’ को कन्धों पर। ‘नृसवारी’ का आनंद तो मिल रहा था परन्तु हो रहे अपमान और आसन्न-पिटाई की आशंका इस आनंद को समाप्त किये दे रही थी।
घर पहले पड़ता था मदरसा बाद में। घर सन्निकट था कि स्वाभिमान जाग उठा मैंने ‘मुजाहिदीन-मदरसा’ से छोड़ देने की गुहार की मगर निष्ठुरों के हृदय न पसीजे। ज़ोर लगा कर छूटने की कोशिश में तशरीफ़ के बल गिर पड़ा, उठा, भागा । शत्रु लपके फिर, द्विपक्षीय समझौता हो गया कि घर के निकलने पर फिर लाद लिया जाएगा। मदरसे पहुंचाए जाने पर मेरी अस्सहाय अवस्था देखकर हाफिज़्जी का कोप कम हो गया और कुछ मदरसे की छुट्टी का भी समय हो चला था।
कुछ ‘मैं नहीं जाऊँगा मदरसे’ एवं कुछ ‘नागरीय-आभिजात्य’ वर्ग में आने के कारण हाफिज़्जी को घर पर बुलाया जाने लगा और अन्य भाई-बहनों के संग ‘लम्बे-कमरे’ में धार्मिक शिक्षा होने लगी। लम्बा-कमरा घर के अन्य कमरों से तुलनात्मक रूप से लम्बा है। परन्तु मैं उस कमरे पर हमारे ताए-मियां जो कि परिवार के सबसे लंबे व्यक्ति हैं, के अधिकार के कारण उसको लंबा कमरा समझता था। इस कमरे में छह दरवाजे थे जिससे उसमें कहीं से भी पढ़ने वालों और पढ़ाने वाले दोनों की चौकसी की जा सकती थी। यही कारण था वहां पर पढ़वाने का। एक बार हाफिज़्जी दिनचर्यानुसार पढ़ाने का प्रयास कर रहे थे और मैं न पढ़ने का । घर में शहतूत की क़म्मच के प्रयोग पर अघोषित रूप से प्रतिबंध था और हाफिज़्जी द्वारा की जा रही मौखिक भर्तस्ना मुझ पर विशेष प्रभाव नहीं डाल पा रही थी। आदेशों और निर्देशों की निरंतर हो रही अवहेलना और संभावित विद्रोह को कुचलने हेतु हफिज़जी ने अपने जेब से माचिस की डिब्बी निकाली और मात्र भयभीत करने के उद्देश्य से एक तीली जलाकर मेरे पाँव की ओर अग्रसारित की। आत्म-रक्षा के अधिकार में मैंने वही पाँव माचिस की जलती हुई तीली पर चला दिया। परिणाम यह हुआ कि तीली का तो पता नहीं कहाँ गयी मगर मेरी लात हाफिज़्जी के ‘सीना-ए-मुबारक’ पर जा लगी। कतिपय घाव शारीरिक रूप से कम हानि देते हैं। हाफिज़्जी ऊपरी-तौर पर तो बुरा नहीं माने परन्तु, उस दिन के बाद पढ़ाने नहीं आए। मगर उस ‘लात-चलाई’ का परिणाम मेरे शरीर पर बहुत बुरा पड़ा। कुटुंब के हर बड़े ने मुझे तबियत से लतियाया और जो किंचित कारणवश लतियाने में असफल रहे उन्होंने जी भर के दुत्कारा। मेरे विरुद्ध इतने लौकिक और पारलौकिक निंदा-प्रस्ताव पारित किये गए कि यदि उन दिनों ‘ख़ुदा-ना-ख़्वास्ता’ मेरी मृत्यु कारित हो जाती तो शर्तिया तौर पर नरकगामी होता। हाँ मुहल्ले के बच्चों पर धाक जम गयी और शहरी होने का कलंक धुल गया।
