आज पढ़िए लेखिका शर्मिला जालान की डायरी-

पहली बार डायरी लिखना शुरू नहीं किया। पहले लिखा है। पर इसके पहले जो लिखा वे मन के दस्तावेज थे। दैनन्दिनी का जोड़ घटाव। और आज जो लिख रही हूँ वह पुरखों की संगति से बड़ा होता अनुभव संसार है।
अध्यापिका हूँ। साथ ही गृहस्थी के काम। अपने अध्यापकीय जीवन में स्कूल की छात्राओं को कहानियाँ सुना रही होती हूँ, कुछ समझा रही होती हूँ। छात्राएँ पूछती हैं मैं बताती हूँ। वे फिर पूछती हैं, मैं फिर बताती हूँ। इस तरह जो संवाद होता है वह संसार अलग है। और जब पढ़ने-लिखने बैठती हूँ तो जो संसार खुलता है वह इनसे अलग।
पढ़ते और लिखते हुए बदल जाती हूँ। मुझसे कोई बात करता है वह ‘मैं’ कोई और है। जो लिखता है वह ‘मैं’ कोई और। जो पढ़ा रहा है वह ‘मैं’ कोई और।
बारिश के दिन जब भी आते हैं रवीन्द्रनाथ की कहानियाँ याद आती हैं और याद आती हैं उनकी कविताएँ भी। उनकी कहानियों में बारिश के बाद का कोई नीला टुकड़ा बादलों का जमघट और बीच- बीच में निकल आई धूप याद आते हैं।
पूरे दिन अपने आप को व्यवस्थित करती रहती हूँ। व्यवस्थित होती हूँ । पर लिखने की टेबल पर बैठते ही सब कुछ अव्यवस्थित हो जाता है। ऐसा तब तक बना रहता है जब तक हाथ कोई ऐसी पुस्तक न आ जाए जो सारी चीजों को एक तार में न जोड़ दे। सब कुछ को व्यवस्थित न कर दे ।
पुरखों का संग साथ
कोरोना काल में सिरहाने रखी पुस्तक ‘श्रृंखला की कड़ियाँ’ को पढना अव्यवस्था से निकल व्यवस्था में लौटना है। इस पुस्तक के साथ जो संवाद है वह न सिर्फ अनुभव के नए संसार में ले जाता है, बल्कि तसल्ली देता है। आधुनिक स्त्री के जीवन के उजले पक्ष और दुर्बलताओं को लेकर मन में उठने वाले प्रश्नों, जिज्ञासाओं और ऊहापोह के उत्तर वहाँ हैं।
महादेवी वर्मा के लेखन से मेरा पहला परिचय स्कूल, कॉलेज और यूनिवर्सिटी के दिनों में हुआ। उन दिनों उनकी कविताएँ, कहानियाँ, रेखाचित्र, संस्मरणों को पढ़ा था। यह जाना कि वह छायावादी कवि हैं जिनमें रहस्यवाद है।
वह महादेवी एक महादेवी थीं, जिन्होंने बारह वर्ष तक कविताएँ लिखीं।
दूसरी वह हैं जिनको बाद में न सिर्फ पढ़ा बल्कि उन पर सोचा, संवाद किया। जिनको ‘श्रृंखला की कड़ियाँ’ में पाया।
‘श्रृंखला की कड़ियाँ’ में जिन महादेवी को पाया वे मेरे अंदर जा कर बैठ गयीं। उन अनेकानेक प्रश्नों के उत्तर वहाँ मिले जो निरुत्तर रह आए थे।
आधुनिक स्त्री का जीवन कहाँ खड़ा है?
महादेवी इस और इसी तरह के कई आधुनिक और पारम्परिक प्रश्नों के उत्तर के साथ अपने गद्य में विराज रही हैं। तीस के दशक में प्रसिद्ध पत्रिका “चाँद” के सम्पादकीय लेखों के रूप में ये प्रकाशित हुए थे। फिर 1942 में ‘श्रृंखला की कड़ियाँ’ पुस्तक छपी। उस दशक में वह प्रज्ञा नारी की विषम परिस्थितियों को अनेक दृष्टिबिन्दुओं से देखने का प्रयास कर रही थी। उन प्रश्नों के उत्तर लिख रही थीं जो समसामयिक हैं। इस पुस्तक को वर्षों पहले पढ़ा था। दूसरी बार पढ़ना नयी रीडिंग है। इस बार यह किताब एक नयी किताब लग रही।
घर बाहर
स्त्रियों की जीवन जगत में विभिन्न भूमिकाओं पर विस्तार से लिखते हुए वह कहती हैं -आधुनिक समय में स्त्रियों की भूमिका तब और जटिल हो जाती है जब जीवन ही जटिल हो गया है। आज उनकी भूमिका पारम्परिक ही नहीं रही। उनकी शिक्षा दीक्षा, पारिवारिक पृष्ठभूमि, सामाजिक परिवेश और असीम संभावनाओं के कारण उनकी भूमिका घर के अतिरिक्त बाहर के जगत में भी है। इस प्रक्रिया में स्त्री जब घर से बाहर निकली तो घर बाहर में उसने सामंजस्य बनाया। पर महादेवी जिस महत्तर बात की तरफ हमारा ध्यान दिलाती हैं वह यह कि घर में उसका दमन हुआ तो बाहर भी तिक्तता का सामना करना पड़ा।
यह स्त्री का स्वप्न है कि बाहर उसे उदार समाज मिलेगा। यथार्थ तो यह है कि बाहर की दुनिया में अप्रत्याशित चुनौतियाँ हैं, जिससे वह लहूलुहान होती हैं।
स्त्रियों को अगर रमणी बनना है, उन्मत्त करना है तो आखिर उसने अपनी दुर्बलता पर कहाँ विजय पायी! आधुनिक स्त्रियों ने विदेशी स्त्रियों के बारे में यह समझा कि वे आर्थिक रूप से स्वतंत्र हो कर आजाद हो गयी हैं। पर विदेशी स्त्रियाँ अपने रूप को स्थिर करने और उसे बढ़ाने और उसकी वृद्धि के लिए जो श्रम करती हैं वह देख क्या उन्हें स्वाधीन स्त्री कहा जायेगा? स्त्री ने बाह्य आकर्षण को बढ़ाने और रूप को स्थायी रखने का प्र्यत्त्न किया ।
पुरुष की नजरों में उसका रूप बना रहे यह वह कारा और जकड़न है जिससे स्त्री स्वयं को निकाल नहीं पायी है।
स्त्री ने स्वयं के स्त्रियोचित गुण, सुकुमारता, कोमलता को वह दुर्गुण माना जिनके कारण वह पितृसत्ता की कारा से निकल नहीं पाती। पर इन गुणों को त्याग कर एक तरफ जहाँ अपने नैसर्गिक गुणों से दूर हुई है वहीँ निष्ठुरता जैसे भाव के अभाव के कारण वह बाहर के क्षेत्र में भी पूरी तरह तालमेल बैठा नहीं पायी है।
आधुनिक स्त्री के लिए आधुनिकता एक मरीचिका है। वह भ्रमित है। इस दिशा में उनका लिखा अलोक डालता है। कवि और लेखक गगन गिल अपनी पुस्तक “देह की मुंडेर पर” के एक लेख ‘ऋषिका महादेवी’ में ठीक ही लिखती हैं-
“सच तो यह है कि महादेवी ने अपने जीवन काल में अपनी रचना यात्रा में एक स्त्री की सामाजिक स्थिति के भले कितने ही छिलके उतारे हों, बदला आज भी कुछ नहीं है।….”
आगे गगन गिल कहती हैं-
“महादेवी न केवल संकट –स्थल का निरीक्षण करती हैं, बल्कि समस्या का पुनर्निरिक्षण भी। वह न केवल गठरी उठाती है, बल्कि उसे खोल कर देखती हैं-यह गठरी जिसे स्त्रियाँ इतने समय से उठाए हैं, इसके भीतर क्या है?”
महादेवी कहती हैं- स्त्री अपनी उपयोगिता के बल पर स्वत्वों की मांग करती यह अच्छा होता। वह पुरूष से प्रतिद्वंदिता कर बैठी और उसके भीतर की नारी भी उसे स्थिर नहीं होने देती।
सुबह -सुबह सारी चीजें पारदर्शी दिखायी देतीं हैं। उजली और चमकीली । अपने रूप और रंग में । ऊपर के सारे आवरण हट जाते हैं। महादेवी का लिखा एक-एक शब्द जीवन को आलोकित करता है। मैं अपने अंदर बदलाव महसूस करती हूँ।
बारिश अभी भी हो रही है और हवा का वेग, बिजली का चमकना जारी है।
डायरी लिखना बंद करते -करते महादेवी के जीवन से जुड़ी दो घटना को याद किये बिना नहीं रह पा रही ।
पहली घटना
1936 के ‘कवि सम्मलेन’में महादेवी का बहुत अप्रिय अनुभव रहा। इस सम्मलेन में जब महादेवी ने अपने कविता-पाठ में प्रेमानुभूति का वर्णन किया ,तो श्रोता शोर मचाने लगे और बाद में बहुत सारे प्रेम-पत्र महादेवी के पास पहुँच गए। महादेवी ने इसके बाद कई सालों तक कवि सम्मेलनों में भाग न लेने का निश्चय किया और बहुत सीमित साहित्यिक समारोहों में भाग लिया।
दूसरी घटना
रामजी पांडेय के अनुसार- *संगमलाल अग्रवाल जी ने महादेवी जी को महिला विद्यापीठ के कुलपति पद से हटाने के लिए एक मुकदमा कर रखा था, जो इलाहबाद उच्च न्यायालय में चल रहा था। अग्रवाल जी ने महादेवी जी पर आर्थिक गड़बड़ी करने के आरोप लगाकर दो अन्य मुकदमे भी दायर कर दिए थे। इन मुकदमों और आक्षेपों तथा कानूनी परेशानियों के कारण महादेवी जी बहुत हताश अवसादग्रस्त और उलझी-उलझी रहती थीं।
1955 में संगमलाल ने एक अन्य संस्थान की स्थापना की । 1964 ई. तक महिला विद्यापीठ से परीक्षा की सरकारी स्वीकृति हटाई गई, और अंततः महिला विद्यापीठ की परीक्षा प्रणाली वास्तव में समाप्त हो गयी। लगभग तीस साल तक देश-भर में लोकप्रिय बनी रही इस संस्था का, महादेवी के सपने का निराशाजनक अंत हुआ।
महादेवी जैसे उजले व्यक्तित्व को भी जीवन में कैसे -कैसे संघर्ष करने पड़े!
