आज दिल्ली के उपहार सिनेमा ट्रेजेडी के 22 साल हो जाएँगे। 13 जून 1997 को दर्शक मैटिनी शो में बॉर्डर फ़िल्म देख रहे थे कि सिनेमा हॉल में आग लग गई। निकास द्वार की कमी के कारण बाहर निकलते समय भगदड़ में 59 लोग मारे गए। मरने वालों में नीलम और शेखर कृष्णमूर्ति के किशोर बेटे-बेटी भी थे। अभी हाल में ही पेंगुइन बुक्स से आई किताब ‘अग्निपरीक्षा’ में उन्होंने इस त्रासदी और न्याय की लड़ाई पर विस्तार से लिखा है। नीलम जी से जब मैंने फ़ोन पर पूछा कि आपने किताब का नाम ‘अग्निपरीक्षा’ क्यों रखा तो उनका कहना था कि इस देश में न्याय की लड़ाई अग्निपरीक्षा ही है। बाईस साल हो गए लेकिन न्याय की लड़ाई अब भी जारी है। सब जानते हैं कि हादसा हुआ, सब जानते हैं कि उपहार के मालिक कौन हैं लेकिन अदालत में साबित करना किसी अग्निपरीक्षा से कम है क्या?
उनका स्पष्ट रूप से कहना है कि न्याय प्रणाली से उनका विश्वास उठ गया है। लेकिन वह इस लड़ाई को लड़ती रहेंगी क्योंकि वह यह देखना चाहती हैं कि न्याय प्रणाली उनको कहाँ तक ले जाती है। ‘अपने बच्चों को न्याय दिलाना हमारा फ़र्ज़ है। उन अन्य 57 लोगों को न्याय दिलाना। न्याय की इस लड़ाई में मैं यह समझ चुकी हूँ कि देश में न्याय पैसे वालों के लिए ही है।‘
नीलम जी ने कहा कि आम आदमी के लिए न्याय पाना कितना मुश्किल है यह इस किताब को पढ़ते हुए समझ में आता है। बाईस साल से हम लड़ रहे हैं कि हमें न्याय मिले? लेकिन न्याय मृगमरीचिका की तरह है। 20 साल बाद इस केस का फ़ैसला आया जिसमें सिनेमा हॉल के एक मालिक को एक साल की सज़ा दी गई, एक को छोड़ दिया गया। 30 करोड़ रूपए का जुर्माना लगाया गया। न्याय का मखौल नहीं है यह तो क्या है? क्या किसी के जान की क़ीमत पैसों से चुकाई जा सकती है?
जब मैंने नीलम जी से यह पूछा कि क्या उनको बाईस साल से यह लड़ाई लड़ते लड़ते किसी तरह की निराशा होती है? उनका जवाब था कि कि मुझे बंदूक़ उठाकर उन लोगों को गोली मार देनी चाहिए थी। शायद तब मुझे न्याय मिल जाता। जिस त्रासदी को सभी लोगों ने टीवी पर देखा, जिसके बारे में अख़बारों में इतना लिखा गया। उसका कोई अपराधी साबित नहीं हो सका।
उपहार सिनेमा हॉल त्रासदी अपने आप में इस न्याय व्यवस्था पर बड़ा सवाल है!
