आज मैं ऐसी किताब की चर्चा करने जा रहा हूं जिसके बारे में कोई कहीं चर्चा नहीं करता। घर, समाज शिक्षा सब के सब चुप्पी साध लेते हैं। जिनकी बस आवाज़ और तालियां ही सुनाई देती हैं। वे हमारे आम जिंदगी के हिस्सा नहीं हुआ करते। यह अलग बात है कि श्याम बेनेगल की फिल्म वेलकम टू सज्जनपुर बड़ी ही शिद्दत से उस समुदाय के प्रतितिनिधि के उठान से लेकर हत्या तक की ख़बर को समाज के सामने रखता है। हां मैं उनके बारे में लिखी किताब के बारे में बात कर रहा हूं जिसे हम किसी भी सरकारी फाॅम में स्थान नहीं मिलता। स्त्री/पुरूष/ तृतीय लिंग के लिए कोई स्थान नहीं था। 2015 के अप्रैल माह में सर्वोच्च न्यायालय ने आदेश दिया कि उन्हें तृतीय लिंगी के तौर पर वो तमाम अधिकार हासिल हैं जो स्त्री/पुरूष को संवैधानिकतौर पर मिला हुआ है। उनके लिए शिक्षण संस्थानों और जाॅब में भी समान आधिकार दिया जाए। उम्मीद है अब तक आपने अनुमान लगा लिया होगा कि मैं किस समुदाय की बात कर रहा हूं। जी हां आम बोलचाल में जिसे हिजड़ा, किन्नर, तृतीयलिंग आदि कहते हैं।
‘मैं हिजड़ा… मैं लक्ष्मी’ किताब की बात कर रहा हूं। यह किताब न केवल एक किन्नर की जिंदगी की कई परते खोलती है बल्कि पूरे किन्नर समुदाय का भूगोल भी हमारे सामने रखती है। दरअसल इसे कहानी, संस्मरण, उपन्यास, डायरी आदि तथाकथित खांचों में बांट कर देखने-समझने की बजाए एक स्वतंत्र विधा और कथ्य को पढ़ने और आत्मसात करने की आवश्यकता हैं। मोटे तौर पर इस किताब को पढ़ते वक्त कई बार एहसास होगा कि यह तो एकल संवाद शैली में लिखी गई लक्ष्मी की आत्मकथ्य है। लेकिन संभव है पाठक यहां गलत साबित हो सकते हैं। क्योंकि यह सच है कि लक्ष्मी नारायण जी ने प्रथम पुरूष में ही अपनी कहानी जो हकीकत है, उसे सुनाते चलती हैं।
इस किताब को लिखने की कल्पना और लेखन अपने आप में काफी चुनौतिपूर्ण ही माना जाएगा। क्योंकि इस पुस्तक के शब्दांकन वैशाली रोडे ने किया है। वो स्वीकारती हैं कि कई बार लगा यह काम संभव नहीं है। कई बार लक्ष्मी अपनी बात सबके सामने नहीं रखना चाहती थीं। कई बार समय की काफी किल्लत थी। कई बार ऐसा भी हुआ कि लक्ष्मी बात करते करते गुम हो जाती थीं। क्योंकि उनका बचपन कई दर्द और टीसों से भरा था। उन्हें याद करना बेहद दर्दीली घटना थी। कई मुलाकातों के बाद यह संभव हो सका। कई बार तो लगा यह काम मुझसे नहीं होगा। सन् 1999 और 2000 का काल खंड़ और इस किताब का प्रकाशन तकरीबन सोलह साल बाद हुआ। इससे अनुमान लगाना कठिन नहीं है कि इसे तैयार करने में शब्दांकन करने वाली वैशाली को स्वयं कितनी दिक्कतें आई होंगी। लेकिन अंततः इस किताब को पढ़ने के बाद समाज और मन में बैठी किन्नर समाज संबंधी भ्रांतियां ख़त्म हो जाएंगी।
दिलचस्प यह भी है कि जिन किन्नरों को देख-सुनकर न केवल महिलाएं बल्कि पुरूष भी भयखाते हैं उस समाज से करीबीयत का रिश्ता न तो समाजशास्त्र कराता है और न ही हमारी शिक्षा। हमारी स्कूली पाठ्यपुस्तकें भी किन्नर समुदाय पर मुकम्मल जानकारियां तक नहीं देतीं। आख़िर बच्चों को जो कुछ भी जानकारियां मिलती हैं वो घर परिवार और समाज से ही हासिल होती हैं। वही डर, भय और दूर रहने की सलाहतों से भरी हुई जानकारियां। ऐसे में इस किताब का आना एक सुखद समाचार तो है ही साथ तथ्यों और ऐसी ही अनसुनी कथाओं से किन्नर समाज को करीब से जानने की कोशिश भी लगती हैं।
वाणी प्रकाशन से प्रकाशित मैं हिजड़ा मैं लक्ष्मी आज की तारीख में न तो नया नाम है और न ही अनपहचाना व्यक्तित्व ही। लक्ष्मी नारायण वही व्यक्ति हैं जिन्होंने दस का दम जैसे बहुचर्चित धारावाहिक में भी देखा गया था। साथ ही बिग बाॅस जैसे रियलिटी शोज में भी अपनी उपस्थिति दर्ज करा चुकी हैं। इन्होंने अनिता खेमका द्वारा निर्देशित फिल्म ‘बिटविन द लाइन्स’ में काम कर चुकी हैं जिसे अंतरराष्टीय समाज ने बड़ी ही शिद्दत से देखा और स्वीकार किया। लक्ष्मी की व्यक्तिगत कहानी के बहाने हमें किन्नर की जिंदगी में सरकने वाली कई सारी घटनाओं और कहानियों की ओर पाठकों का ध्यान खींचती है। इसे पढ़ते हुए कई बार पाठको की आंखें पनीली भी हो जाएंगी। क्योंकि जो घटनाएं लक्ष्मी के साथ बाल्यकाल में घटी आज भी पढ़ते हुए सारी घटनाएं आंखों के सामने घूमने लगती हैं। संभव है मीरा नायर की फिल्म याद आए जिसमें एक छोटी सी बच्ची को शादी के घर मंे शारीरिक शोषण का सामना करना पड़ता है। ऐसी ही कई सारी फिल्में और कहानियां हमारे समाज में जहां बच्चे शोषण के शिकार होते हैं। बतौर लक्ष्मी स्वीकारती हैं कि बचपन में जब गांव गईं वहां शादी का माहौल था। कुछ बड़े बच्चों ने मेरे साथ बालपूर्वक वो सब किया जिसे मैं समझ भी नहीं सकी थी कि मेरेे साथ यह क्या हुआ। उस वक्त काफी दर्द हुआ। मानसिक और शारीरिक दोनों ही। मुझे धमकाया गया कि मैं किसी से भी इस बारे में किसी को भी न बताउं। और मैं चुपचाप रही। यह चुप्पी आगे भी जारी रही। जब भी गांव जाता या खुद मुंबई में भी मेरे साथ शारीरिक शोषण हुए। लेकिन बालमन उन सारी प्रक्रियाओं को समझने में सक्षम नहीं था। बालपन में घटी वो दर्दपूर्ण घटना से पीछा नहीं छूटा। बल्कि वो सिलसिला आगे भी जारी रहा। लेकिन सातवीं आठवीं तक आते आते अब दर्द खत्म हो गए थे। अब मैंने ठान लिया था कि शोषण नहीं सहना है। और अब लड़कों से सचेत रहने लगी।
अपने घर का बड़ा बेटा होने के नाते इनकी अपनी जिम्मेदारियां थीं। छोटे भाई-बहनों के बीच इन्हें खूब प्यार मिला। मां-पिता ने कभी भी इनके साथ भेदभाव नहीं किया। मां-पिता ने इन्हें खूब प्यार किया और लाड़ से पाला। हां यह अलग बात है कि इनके रिश्ते तब तल्ख़ हो गए जब लक्ष्मी ने खुलेआम टीवी पर एक बाईट दिया कि वो हिजड़ा हैं। घर में बिना बताए उन्होंने अपनी प्रकृति को देखते हुए किन्नर समुदाय में शिष्यत्व हासिल कर लिया था। लेकिन यह तथ्य तब सबके सामने खुल कर आ गई जब उन्होंने मुंबई में एक टीवी न्यूज चैनल को बतौर हिजड़ा बाईट दिया। घर में भी खबर लग गई। इन्होंने सबसे पहले अपने छोटे भाई शशि को फोन पर कहा कि घर की टीवी बंद कर दो और जल्द मुझसे मिलो। कुछ जरूरी बात करनी है। लक्ष्मी ने सारी बातें विस्तार से भाई को बताया। आपसी बहसें, दर्द, दुख,आंसू भी बहे। लेकिन लक्ष्मी ने तय किया था कि जब एक बार निर्णय ली जा चुकी हैं कि मैं किन्नरों के बीच रहूंगी। उनके लिए काम करूंगी। तो अब कोई भी परिस्थिति हो मुझे वापस नहीं आना। जब घर में दाख़िल होती हैं तब घर का माहौल बेहद ग़मज़दा था। सब के सब गुस्से में थे। मां और पिता ने कोई बात नहीं की। पिता ने कुछ देर बाद बोलना शुरू किए। लगातार कह रहे थे वापस आ जाओ। हमारी देखभाल लालन पालन में कहां कमी रह गई कि तुम उस समुदाय में जा रहे हो। लेकिन लक्ष्मी ने वह समुदाय नहीं छोड़ा। घर भी नहीं छोड़ा। मां धीरे धीरे सहज होने लगीं। बातें भी होने लगीं लेकिन पिताजी सहज नहीं हो पाए थे। यूं तो हमारे घर में हर कोई अपना गुस्सा उतारने के बाद शांत और सामान्य हो जाते थे। लेकिन यह घटना बड़ी और अल्हदा थी।
लक्ष्मी याद करती हैं कि किन्नर समुदाय को कबूलने की घटना के बाद पिताजी ने सोचा कि इसकी शादी करा दी जाए तो स्थितियां सुधर जाएंगी। लेकिन उनका मानना गलत साबित हुआ। एक दिन उन्होंने लक्ष्मी को बुलाया और कहा ‘‘ तुम शादी कर लो लड़की अच्छी है।’’ लक्ष्मी ने जवाब दिया मैं शादी नहीं कर सकती। बहनों और भाईयों की कर दें। बहरहाल लक्ष्मी ने शादी नहीं की। इन्होंने इस किताब में स्वीकारा है कि इनका कई पुरूषों के साथ नजदीकी रिश्ते जरूर रहे। लेकिन जिंदगी आगे बढ़ने का नाम है और वो कई लड़कों को इसी शर्त पर पीछे छोड़ती आगे बढ़ती गईं। जिनसे प्यार करती थीं अंत में इन्हें महसूस हुआ कि उसे लड़की के साथ शादी कर जीवन की शुरुआत करनी चाहिए। इसे इन्होंने बड़ी कठोरता से निभाया। लक्ष्मी लिखती हैं कि उसकी शादी के बाद मुझे बहुत कष्ट हुआ। लेकिन उसे मैंने नियति मान कर कबूल किया।
लक्ष्मी के जीवन का एक ऐसा भी पहलू इस किताब में खुल कर आया है कि वो सिर्फ बार में डांस करने वाली महज किन्नर व कलाकार भर नहीं हैं। कलाकार की भूमिका तो है ही साथ ही उन्हें दाई संस्था की स्थापना और संरक्षण में किन्नरों की सामाजिक सुरक्षा, स्वास्थ्य आदि को लेकर सजग काम करने लगीं। पूरी मुंबई, ठाणे आदि के किन्नरों के बीच स्वास्थ्य और सुरक्षा के साथ ही उनके अधिकारों को लेकर विभिन्न मंचों और गली मुहल्ले में जाने लगीं। इस काम में कई सहयात्री रहे जिन्होंने खुले दिल से इनकी मदद की।
लक्ष्मी की जिंदगी तब एक बड़ी करवट लेती है जब इन्हें सन् 2006 में टोरंटो में होने वाली अंतरराष्टीय एड्स सेमिनार में शामिल होने का न्योता मिला। लक्ष्मी बताती हैं कि उनके पास पासपोर्ट नहीं था। कैसे और कितना चक्कर और श्रम करना पड़ा पासपोर्ट हासिल करने में। इनके पास कोई दस्तावेज तक नहीं था जिसमें साबित हो सके कि वो लड़की हैं ऐसे में बतौर लक्ष्मी जिस अधिकारी से मिलती है याद करते हुए बताती हैं कि पहले मुझे देख कर चकरा गए। ‘मुझे अवकाश ग्रहण करने में सिर्फ छह माह बाकी हैं…पर मेरी नौकरी में कहीं भी किसी भी हिजड़े ने मुझसे पासपोर्ट नहीं मांगा। मुझे उसकी प्रोसीजर का ही पता नहीं है। इसलिए मुझे दिल्ली से पूछना पड़ेगा।’ मिस्त्री साहब ने लक्ष्मी की काफी सहृद्यता के साथ मदद की। और आनन फानन में जरूरी कागजात बने और पासपोर्ट हाथ मे लेकर लक्ष्मी टोरंटो जा पहुंचीं। इसके बाद तो विदेश जाने आने का सिलसिला ही शुरू हो गया।
टोरंटो, अॅमस्टरडॅम आना जाना लगा रहा। कभी सेमिनार में किन्नरों की आवाज लेकर कर तो कभी डांस सिखाने जाती रहीं। दूसरी दफ़ा फिर लक्ष्मी के जीवन में तब मोड़ आता है जब अमेरिका के यूनाइटेड नेशन्स जनरल असेम्बली स्पेशल सेशन्स मंे हिस्सा लेने के लिए बुलावा आया। बतौर लक्ष्मी अमेरिका के बारे में काफी सुन रखा था काफी कठिन होता है वीज मिलना लेकिन ईश्वर को मंजूर था कि मैं वहां अपनी और अपने देश की बात रखूं। जब मैं वहां पहंुची तो मुझे खुद पर काफी गर्व महसूस हो रहा था। मैं यहां अपने देश का प्रतिनिधित्व कर रही थी। अपने देश की संस्कृति, वहां के एटिकेट्स. वहां के सौ करोड़ लोगों का प्रतिनिधित्व कर रही थी…मैं अब लक्ष्मी नहीं थी, भारत के रूप में मुझे लोग देख रहे थे।
लक्ष्मी ने देश के साथ ही विदेश में भी किन्नरों की समस्या और भारतीय संस्कृति और समाज में किन्नरों की आवाज को लेकर लगातार सजग हस्तक्षेप कर रही हैं। इन्होंने जीवन के इस सफ़र में दाई संस्था को बाए बाए किया तो वहीं दूसरी संस्था अस्तित्व की भी स्थापना की। इस संस्था के तहत इन्होंने अपनी टीम के साथ मिलकर ठाणे जिले में रहने वाले तमाम किन्नरों की मैपिंद की। यह काम वास्तव में प्रशंसनीय तो है ही साथ ही शोधार्थियों के लिए एक मार्गदर्शन भी है।
याद कीजिए वेलकम टू सज्जनपुर फिल्म में अंत में समाज द्वारा चुने हुए समाज के प्रतिनिधि किन्नर की हत्या कर दी जाती है। इस पर समाज में चुप्पी पसर जाती है। कुछ ऐसी घटना का जिक्रा लक्ष्मी इस पुस्तक में भी करती हैं। इन्हीं की एक चेली रात में अचानक गायब हो जाती है काफी खोजबीन के बाद उसकी लाश एक कुआं में तैरता मिलता है। पुलिस एक एक कर सभी किन्नरों को परेशान करना शुरू करती है। ऐसी स्थिति का सामना लक्ष्मी कैसे करती हैं इसकी दिलचस्प वाकया लक्ष्मी यहां याद करती हैं। पुलिस तंत्र कैसे किन्नरों को परेशान करती है। उन्हें रातों रात उठा ले जाती है। तब कैसे अपने समुदाय का आत्मबल बनाए रखा जाए और पुलिस के पेश आया जाए इसकी भी कहानी लक्ष्मी इस किताब में बताती हैं। किन्नरों के समाज को कैसे सुरक्षित रखा जाए। इन्हें कैसे इनके स्वास्थ्य के बारे में जानकारी दी जाए इसकी भी संघर्षपूर्ण कहानी इस किताब में मिलती है।
लक्ष्मी जी की जिंदगी का एक और पहलू है वह इस किताब में उभर पर स्तह पर आया है। वह है मानवीयता। इन्होंने जिस शिद्दत से किन्नर समाज पर होने वाले अत्याचार और उपेक्षापूर्ण व्यवहार के खिलाफ खड़ी होती हैं। वहीं निजी जिंदगी में कई बार इन्हें अपने शरीर के शोषण की व्यथित कर देने वाली घटना आज भी आंसूओं में डूबो देती हैं। शुरू में दर्द होता था। शरीर और आत्मा दुखी हो जाता था। लेकिन आगे चलकर जीवन के कुछ शर्तंे बनाईं कि दिल्ली के लड़कों से दिल नहीं लगाना। बार बार लक्ष्मी को महसूस हो रहा था कि इस शरीर में ऐसा क्या होता है,जो पुरुषों को आकर्षित करता है। इन्होंने अपने काॅलेज दिनों को खूब इन्ज्वाय किया। बार में डांस कर पैसे कमाएं। खूब पहना ओढ़ा मौज मस्ती की। ठीक एक आम लड़के/लड़कियों की तरह। जब पैसे कम पड़ने लगे तब डांस के साथ डांस क्लासेज भी देने लगीं। लेकिन शरीर के साथ कभी सौदा नहीं किया।
