‘रूप’ फ़िराक़ की रुबाइयों का संग्रह है। जिसमें भारतीय हिंदु स्त्री का व्यक्तित्व पहली बार उर्दू शायरी में ढला। इस लोकप्रिय तथा खूबसूरत, संगीतमय पुस्तक का सूत्रपात द्वितीय विश्वयुद्ध के अंतिम दिनों में हुआ था। एक रुबाई से आरंभ हुआ यह संग्रह 100 दिनों में साढ़े तीन सौ से ज्यादा रुबाईयों का संग्रह बन गया था। उर्दू के प्रख्यात शायर स्वयं फिराक गोरखपुरी कहते हैं कि रूप की रुबाईयों में नि:संदेह एक भारतीय हिन्दू स्त्री का चेहरा है‚ चाहे रुबाईयाँ उर्दू में क्यों न लिखी गई हों।
रूप की भूमिका में वे लिखते हैं –
” मुस्लिम कल्चर बहुत ऊंची चीज़ है‚ और पवित्र चीज़ है‚ मगर उसमें प्रकृति‚ बाल जीवन‚ नारीत्व का वह चित्रण या घरेलू जीवन की वह बू–बास नहीं मिलती‚ वे जादू भरे भेद नहीं मिलते जो हिन्दू कल्चर में मिलते हैं। कल्चर की यही धारणा हिन्दू घरानों के बर्तनों में‚ यहाँ तक कि मिट्टी के बर्तनों में‚ दीपकों में‚ खिलौनों में‚ यहाँ तक कि चूल्हे चक्की में‚ छोटी छोटी रस्मों में और हिन्दू की सांस में इसी की ध्वनियाँ, हिन्दू लोकगीतों को अत्यन्त मानवीय संगीत और स्वार्गिक संगीत बना देती है।

ड्योढ़ी तो परबत भई‚ आंगन भयो बिदेस
यह तो हमें गालिब भी नहीं दे सके‚ इकबाल भी नहीं दे सके‚ चकबस्त भी नहीं दे सके। इधर आईए‚ रूप की रुबाईयों में भारतीयता किस तरह सांस ले रही है‚ इसका कुछ कुछ अंदाज़ा होगा। हिन्दू संस्कृति किसी एक अवतार या पैगम्बर या धार्मिक ग्रन्थ की देन नहीं है। यह संस्कृति संपूर्ण भारत के सामूहिक जीवन से क्रमश: उगी है। भौतिकता और आध्यात्म का समन्वय इस संस्कृति की विशेषता है।
और फिराक ने सच ही लिखा था ये रुबाईयाँ नहीं भारतीय स्त्री के सौन्दर्य का जादू हैं।
है रूप मैं वो खटक‚ वो रस‚ वो झंकार
कलियों के चटकते वक्त जैसे गुलज़ार
या नूर की उंगलियों से देवी कोई
जैस शबे–माह में बजाती हो सितार
ये रंगे निशात‚ लहलहाता हुआ गात
जागी जागी सी काली जु.ल्फों की रात
ऐ प्रेम की देवी बता दे मुझको
ये रूप है या बोलती तसवीरे हयात
वैसे रुबाई अरबी भाषा का शब्द है। रुबाई संगीतपूर्ण काव्यकला है। रुबाई में चार पंक्तियां होती हैं‚ पहली‚ दूसरी और चौथी पंक्ति का तुकान्त काफिया एक सा होता है। तीसरी पंक्ति तुकान्त से मुक्त होती है। कभी चारों ही एक से तुकान्त वाली होती हैं। रुबाई का एक विशेष छन्द होता है। रूप में रुबाई कला के बारे में लिखते हुए कहा गया है कि – ” रुबाई की चारों पंक्तियां एक सम्पूर्ण कविता होती है और पहली ही पंक्ति से रुबाई अपनी प्रत्येक पंक्ति द्वारा लहरों की तरह उठती है और चौथी पंक्ति में अंतिम लहर तट को चूम लेती है।” कहते हैं रुबाई लिखने की कला बड़ी जटिल व सूक्ष्मता से परिपूर्ण होती है जैसे हाथी दांत पर बारीक नक्काशी‚ इसे कहना या लिखना हरेक के बस की बात नहीं। गालिब और इकबाल भी इस क्षेत्र में अच्छी कृतियां न दे सके। फिराक गोरखपुरी को रुबाई लिखने वाले गिने चुने सिद्धहस्तों में गिना गया है। रूप की रुबाइयों में जहाँ यौवन‚ प्रेम और अथाह सौन्दर्य का सागर बहा है वहीं लौकिक में अलौकिक चेतना के समन्वय का दार्शनिक रूप भी दृष्टिगोचर होता है।
नभ मण्डल गूंजता है तेरे जस से
गुलशन खिलते हैं ग़म के खारो खस से
संसार में ज़िन्दगी लुटाता हुआ रूप
अमृत बरसा रहा है जोबन रस से।
फिराक की इन संगीतमय रुबाइयों में अपने यौवन से बेखबर कमसिन किशोरी से लेकर‚ प्रेमिका‚ भांवरे लेती परीणीता‚ सुहागरात को लाज से भरी नव वधू‚ सुहागरात के बाद स्नान करती वधु‚ सद्यस्नात: स्त्री‚ विरहिणी‚ भाई को राखी बांधती‚ बच्चे को नहलाती‚ दुलराती मां‚ सारे त्यौहार पूरी श्रद्धा से मनाती हुई गाय को पुचकार कर चारा खिलाती‚ रामायण पढ़ती भारतीय हिन्दू स्त्री के हर रूप की छब बड़े ही भाव भीने शब्दों में बांध कर रख दी गई है। एक एक रुबाई प्रेम और सौन्दर्य का छलकता हुआ अमृत पात्र है।
माथे की यह कहकशां ये जोबन की लहर
पड़ते ही झपक झपक जाती है नज़र
वो रूप जहां दोनों समय मिलते हों
आँखों में सुहागरात‚ मुखड़े पर सहर
चढ़ती हुई नदी है कि लहराती है
पिघली हुई बिजली है कि बल खाती है
पहलू में लहक के भींच लेती है वो जब
न जाने कहाँ बहा ले जाती है
चढ़ती जमुना का तेज रेला है कि जुल्फ
बल खाता हुआ सियाह कौंदा है कि ज़ुल्फ़
गोकुल की अंधेरी रात देती हुई लौ
घनश्याम की बांसुरी का लहरा है कि ज़ुल्फ
खुश्बू से मशाम आँखों के बस जाते हैं
गुंचे से फिजांओं में बिकस जाते हैं
झुकती है तेरी आँख सर्रेखलवर्तेनाज
या कामिनी के फूल बरस जाते हैं।
गंगा वो बदन कि जिसमें सूरज भी नहाये
जमुना बालों की‚ तान बंसी की उड़ाय
संगम वो कमर‚ आँख ओझल लहराय
तहे–आब सरस्वती की धारा बल खाय
एक स्त्री के सौन्दर्य को रोम रोम को आँख बना कर निरखा है शायर ने और हज़ारों हजा.र सुन्दर उपमानों से सजा डाला कि जुल्फ जुल्फ न होकर गंगा स्नान को उमड़ती भीड़ से लेकर चीन के एक नगर खुतुन जहां कस्तूरी बहुत मिलती है‚ की महकती रातें तक बन गयी हैं। आँखें हैं कि तारों को भी लोरियां सुनाकर सुला दें। प्रेम में पगी भारतीय स्त्री गंगा‚ जमुना से लेकर सीता‚ राधा‚ लक्ष्मी का स्वरूप लेकर उतर आई है इन रुबाइयों में।
जब पिछले पहर प्रेम की दुनिया सो ली
कलियों की गिरह पहली किरन ने खोली
जोबन रस छलकाती उठी चंचल नार
राधा गोकुल में जैसे खेले होली
ये हल्के‚ सलोने‚ सांवलेपन का समां
जमुना के जल में और आसमानों में कहां
सीता पे स्वयंबर में पड़ा राम का अक्स
या चाँद के मुखड़े पर है जुल्फों का धुंआ
जब प्रेम की घाटियों में सागर उछले
जब रात की बादियों में तारे छिटके
नहलाती फिजां को आई रस की पुतली
जैसे शिव की जटा से गंगा उतरे
इन अद्वितीय रुबाईयों में भारतीयता की महक अलग अलग मौसमों से चुराई गयी है… हमारी संस्कृति में मौसमों के महत्व से शायर अछूते नहीं…हर मौसम में वे स्त्री के रूप की छटा बिखेर देते हैं इन शब्दों में –
ये चैत की चाँदनी में आना तेरा
अंग अंग निखरा हुआ‚ लहराया हुआ
रस और सुगंध से जवानी बोझल
एक बाग है बौर आए हुए आमों का
फिराक इन रुबाईयों में एक भारतीय गृहस्थन के विभिन्न रुपों पर फिदा हैं‚ चाहे फिर वह बच्चे को नहलाती माँ हो या राखी बंधवाती बहन या घर को दीपकों की कतार से सजाती पत्नी।
आँगन में लिये चाँद के टुकड़े को खड़ी
हाथों पे झुलाती है उसे गोद भरी
रह रह कर हवा में जो लोका देती
गूंज उठती है खिलखिलाते बच्चे की हँसी
फिराक की इन रूबाईयों ने पारम्परिक भारतीय स्त्री के रूप को अमरत्व दे दिया है।
मण्डप के तले खड़ी है रस की पुतली
जीवन साथी से प्रेम की गांठ बंधी
महके शोलों के गिर्द भांवरों के समय
मुखड़े पर नर्म धूप सी पड़ती हुई
आंगन में सुहागिनी नहा के बैठी
रामायण जानुओं पे रक्खी है खुली
जाड़े की सुहानी धूप खुले गेसू की
परछांई चमकते सफहे पर पड़ती हुई
फिराक की इन रुबाइयों में जहाँ हिन्दी और उर्दू का गंगा–जमनी संगम मिलता है‚ वहीं फारसी और अरबी के कई क्लिष्ट शब्दों को भी संजोया है और यूं संजोया है कि रुबाइयों का संगीत और रस ज़रा भी फीका न हो। और वे शब्द अपने आप में इतने पूर्ण और अर्थमय हैं कि उनकी जगह कोई और शब्द रुबाई के रस को कम कर सकता था। इसीलिये साथ में हिन्दी अर्थ तारांकित कर नीचे लिखे गये हैंं।

एक मोजिज़ये–ख़ामोश तरजे–रफ्तार का ढंग

फिराक के इस जादू रूप की भाषा वहां भी मन मोह लेती है जहां उन्होंने दृश्य खींचने में ठेठ देशज शब्दों को शामिल किया है‚ मसलन –
चौके की सुहानी आंच‚ मुखड़ा रौशन
है घर की लक्ष्मी पकाती भोजन
देते हैं करछुल के चलने का पता
सीता की रसोई के खनकते बर्तन
फिराक की रूबाईयों को पढ़ कर बहुत से प्रसिद्ध लोगों ने सराहना की है‚ यह वह समय था जब कविता विशुद्ध रसमय कविता होती थी‚ लोग अपनी रचनाओं की प्रशंसा न कर अपने समकालीनों की प्रशंसा किया करते थे ना कि विकट आलोचनाएं। आज कविता ऐसे ही वादों और आलोचनाओं के घेरे में अपनी पहचान खोती जा रही है –
रूप की रुबाइयों में बुद्धकाल‚ मुस्लिमयुग और टेगोर के युग से लेकर आज तक की भारतीय संस्कृति अपनी झलकियां दिखाती हुई नज़र आती है। – सरोजिनी नायडू
